.The Rough Guide to Italy (Rough Guide Travel Guides) by: Ros Belford, Martin Dunford, Celia Woolfrey May 29, 2003 Having Just come Back from a camping trip to Rome by Train, I can honestly say that this book was of immense value. All the information I needed was in there and when you have no car and do not know where you are staying from one day to the next it is important the info is correct. There are gliches and these come in the forms of the maps and some of the prices. If your going to rome or venice buy yourself a good map, everywhere else is described adequately. The prices of things are obviously going to change but this would appear to be by the the day in Venice, so don't trust what the guide says about prices in Venice, it will be more expensive than it states. Everything in it is about woman and the best bit is the history of the women of Rome, who rarely feature in school and university books but are far more fun to read about. Can't recommend it highly enough. [...] Why do publishers always scrap the best books?? OK, not always, but in this case they did. My only complaint is that it is aimed mainly at lesbians, which is ridiculous as it is of interest to all women, not only lesbians, and that can be a bit offputting to heterosexual woman. .Rome (Eyewitness Travel Guides) by: Ros Belford, Olivia Ercoki October 14, 1999 Beautiful illustrations and cut-away diagrams are the hallmarks of this excellent series of books; this Guide is no exception and is useful for planning a visit and working out what to see and do in different areas of Rome. It also has an excellent section on the Sistene Chapel ceiling and wall frescoes, very useful when your are craning your neck whilst being jostled by a thousand other sight see-ers. Unfortunately it is rather light on actual historical information and explanation of what you are seeing and overall feels rather superficial; this is a criticism I feel is in common with this series in general- certainly if you know an area well you are often surprised at the omissions in these books, hence I am always suspicious that I may be ...
