Many of these types of language learning programs promise big things and dont deliver. The learning program is split up into 12 short units which introduces 5 keywords and phrases per unit. To aid the understanding of each unit, there are sections on culture and etiquette. This is most helpful in adopting the spoken language, and this approach is a new idea I've not come across before within these learning packages and I have to say it works really well when trying to adopt the language into a conversation. .Easy Learning French (Collins Easy Learning Audio Course) by: Rosi McNab July 07, 2008 This is a fun and enjoyable cd set that is easy to follow. The example spoken and written phrases are exactly what you want to hear and see when you are new to a language.I liked the fact that is all seems modern and not at all like the old fashioned text that we learned in school. I downloaded the discs to my Mp3 and made much more prgress than I expected leading up to our visit to France. .Easy Learning Polish (Collins Easy Learning Audio Course) by: Hania Forss July 07, 2008 All quite good fun, and non-patronising, it has the poor plinky-plonky music you would expect and the odd slightly cringey librarian's joke "so you want to say good day - dzin dobre - pretend you want to start your day with a gin - not a good idea" etc. But it's friendly and accessible, and doubtless very useful as a phrase book, though I haven't found a Pole to try out my new-found skills. The only issue is the lack of written confirmation of your pronunciation, so, taking a simple word like 'sir' - I couldn't tell from the female narrator whether it was pronounced paNi or paNGi. .Easy Learning Italian (Collins Easy Learning Audio Course) by: Clelia Boscolo, Rosi McNab July 07, 2008 I always fancied learning Italian; I speak French, and bad Spanish, and picked up a bit along the way, but I'd like to be able to start a conversation with my Italian friends (who all speak English). Reading the book when the package arrived, I thought it was going to a bit simple for me. (It's called "easy learning"; what was I expecting, really?) I'd decided that I ought to be concentrating on something a bit harder. I loaded the CDs on to my iPod, forgot about them then got a real surprise when they turned up on "Shuffle". .Easy Learning Mandarin (Collins Easy Learning Audio Course) by: Rosi McNab, Wei Jin July 07, 2008 This 3 CD set comes with a small booklet to follow each chapter as you go. A user certainly won't be an expert after using this but it is definitely a really useful introduction to basic phrases (along the lines of "Hello, how are you?", "Goodybe Mr Wang" etc). Each phrase is repeated several times for you, and also repeated by different male and female voices, so that you can establish the correct inflection and emphasise the right syllables. I would personally recommend this to anyone who, like me, had no previous knowledge of Mandarin and wants to start from the very beginning.
