. Paris (Lonely Planet City Guide)
by: Stephen Fallon, Annabel Hart
October 01, 2006
Took my fiance to Paris recently and bought this book for the trip.
Have always been impressed when I've taken one of the Lonely Planet guides on my travels, and this book maintained the high standards that I've come to expect from them.
Doesn't matter if you know a bit about where you are visiting or if you are completely clueless - everything you could need to know is in here.
Well written, easy to use, full of useful information, and yet small enough to fit in a coat pocket.
Highly recommend.

. Budapest (Lonely Planet City Guide)
by: Stephen Fallon

I am a big fan of the Lonely Planet range and almost always buy one of their books when going abroad. This is the first time I bought one of the "Best Of" guides, and has put me off buying another one!
I've just come back from a 4 night trip to Budapest with my girlfriend, and by the end of it were only using the book for the maps. Some of the bar/cafe recommendations were quite bizarre. One cafe (with a poor overpriced menu) said to look onto "one of Pest's most attractive little sqaures" this turned out to be a car park?! Many of the so called popular bars it mentioned were very quiet, although this may be more to do with the time of year.
Like the other reviewers, I feel this book glossed over a lot of information. ... Read More:

. Hungary (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
by: Neal Bedford, Stephen Fallon

This guide has a lot of useful information but as it was published in March 2003 it is out of date. The quoted prices are likely to have gone up slightly and some places to eat or places to stay may not be there any more. The section on Budapest is detailed and useful. Most of the information on attraction opening times seem to be correct (even if the prices aren't). I only visited the capital so I don't know how good the information on the rest of Hungary is. I recommend this book if you are travelling to Hungary but be aware that it is two years out of date. I couldn't find any other guides that weren't even more out of date. If you visit Budapest I recommend a tour of the parliament building. If you are an ... Read More:

. Hong Kong and Macau (Lonely Planet City Guide)
by: Stephen Fallon
January 01, 2004
Generally a fan of lonely planet books and although the book was a good buy, I didn't find it execptional either (though I haven't seen any other books so couldn't recommend anyting better). Had a good overview of Hong Kong and good description of the essential places. What was a bit annoying is that the book isn't organised by area (this is where i am, what can i do?) but more my activity (this is what you can do, where can you do it?) - must city guides do it this way though. Was also missing more upscale places (bars, clubs). Summary: good buy in the abscence of anything better

. Slovenia (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
by: Stephen Fallon
September 30, 1998
Good old Lonely Planet, it has once again provided all the information I needed to get around on holiday. It's well laid out and easy to find the information you need, and has just about the right level of detail. Everything I needed to know could be found here; where to stay, where to eat, how to get around, how to stay healthy, basic language, what to see and when it was open. Lonely Planet does a good job of catering for everyone, from families to thrill seekers to budget travellers. This book is small enough to carry around and sturdy enough to survive the experience, but contains pretty much everything you need to know. I'd definitely recommend it if you're visiting Slovenia.
