.Teach Yourself Finnish Complete Course with CD (Audio) (Teach Yourself Complete Language Courses) by: Terttu Leney April 16, 2005 The book seems to teach you all you need to get a good grip of the language. I find the dialogues very useful and good. I just find them very hard to digest and to memorise as there are too many dialogues with too little explanations and exercises to go with it. But I understand that more exercises would blow the size of the book out of proportion and then the course would probably be even more discouraging. The CDs are good too but here again, I miss exercises in which you can repeat after a pause what has just been said. So there is no good way to work on your pronunciation. .Teach Yourself Finnish (Teach Yourself Complete Courses) Accompanies Book by: Terttu Leney October 29, 2004 Lies, lies and slander goddammit! Anybody who knows the basics of grammar would realize that the reason the phrases don't match up so that they are perfectly identical is because Finnish is an inflected language and English is not. Therefore, Finnish will have more roundabout ways of saying things in terms of grammar. I would recommend a crash course in grammar for anybody who has a problem with this. Also trying to learn a language with just a book and no lessons or real life practice is an exercise in futility. Unless you are extremely gifted and skilled in the language learning process and have the memory of a machine, you will learn no more but some greetings and swearwords this way. Most of the jokes are 'between the lines', and situational-Steve's one night stand after being plied with koskenkorva, for instance.
