This pack has really helped me get to grips with French.

I was taking a short course, but I was struggling as we were just reading phrases out of a textbook. I was unsure about the pronunciation when I practiced alone. Result? I was very shy in front of everyone else & quickly became embarrassed and stuttered all of the time. I eventually gave up on the course...




That's why I love this pack. As well as a clearly laid out 207 page book, you'll also receive 2 CDs. The first CD goes with the book, so you can learn the correct pronunciation of the phrases.

As explained in the other reviews you get a two CD set and an A5 booklet with this pack.

It's all been nicely put together for the beginner (this is definitely aimed at the phrase book/ tourist market) and the stand alone CD is a good idea.
However the main problem with this is the inclusion of Tony Buzan's mind maps - I just can't see that they are helpful in learning a language.

It's also quite annoying that he lays claim to teaching techniques that really wouldn't surprise Plato or Socrates! If you can get past Buzan's self advertising this is a very well put together set and will put you well on the way to learning enough to get you by on a business trip or holiday.

The packaging is great to look at and is also very practical - the book and CD's fit neatly back into place. The new `Mind-mapping' is not really new, it's just been given a name (colour coding groups of words). I'm not saying it isn't a good idea if sticking masses of paper with groups of words in different colours makes you learn it better than just reading it from the book, but I personally don't want additional papers everywhere when it's all in the book anyway.

Another of the books methods of learning words is traffic lights where green is `go ahead' - the words are the same or nearly the same in English, amber is `wait and think' - not as close as green words but there will be a connection to English words, and red `stop, think, make ... Read More:

well done mr buzan - kid friendly graphics. i never finished the hard back version, but this is interesting for dads too - less theory and more doing. good for us time pressed parents to get the basics and help our kids

One thing that really strikes me about this book is that it is useful and applicable wherever you are in your life, or education. It teaches principles that are useful to anyone that needs to remember anything - and makes them easily understandable. If you've wanted to know why it is that you can remember some, useless, things easily, but when it comes to dates of major battles (etc.) you're at a loss, then this book can help. It can also teach you how to turn those dates, facts, quotations or just about anything into things that stick in your memory. Short is good, and this book is very short. In fact it would have been better as a leaflet/ booklet. But who would spend £8 on a leaflet? You could stand in a bookstore and read the short simple chapter about "Mind Maps" in this book and save yourself the purchase price; honestly this book could well have been a small and effective booklet.

The subject of the book is worthy of learning and usage as i found the technique to be effective. Mind mapping offers a very easy technique that requires little more than color pens and paper. The first half of this book was quite useful in that it highlights problems with back skipping and other basic reading "problems".

What let this book down for me was the shameless self promotion of his Mind Mapping which he has trademarked.

I did not a book about Mind Mapping (or spider diagrams, to use its non-trademarked name) and therefore don't want to be cross-sold further mind mapping material

The claims about super-high speeds have not yet proved attainable and I have serious doubts about their attainability

That said I have improved my reading speeds as I was particulary slow

I have been a great fan of Tony Buzan for many years. His techniques really do work and I urge you to buy this product and persevere with them. I use them all the time and they are easy to understand and apply in everyday life. Don't kid yourself, though, you have to work at the method and you can persuade yourself that you are really using mind maps properly when in reality you're not. The proof will be in how the power of your mind is able to be revealed to you and you feel suddenly empowered.

This book provides with many different techniques to help you not only on a day to day basis at home, but also for work whether you are a professional or a student. One of the downside I felt with this book is that it is too general and does not give specific examples suited for a particular task/person. Another thing as well is like many of the authors other book, there is a lot of repetition in this book, that you would have read or if you would read, if you read.have read other books of the same collection.
