There were some aspects which were pretty good but fairly standard e.g maps and information around locations of various places of interest. But when it came to descriptions of the various places, its almost like the writer is on commission. Constant over hyping of places, those that we could find or that were still in business!! Greeks are really friendly - sorry but they were not. Like most of the med they tolerated us. We went to some of the recommended restaurants but they were either not in the location or had been closed down. As a very topline guide its ok (some useful info around the transport system) but I would not follow its entertainment reco's closely. This book contains the usual Lonely Planet attributes of glaring ommissions, inaccuracies, strange recommendations and howling errors. And then there's the endless padding out of accommodation/restaurant listings to make up the weight. It feels like it has been rushed together, even though it's the third edition.
However, there is still quite a lot of useful information that you may not necessairly find out elsewhere - the trouble is, you don't know if those bits are the accurate ones until you find out for yourself.

I have visited quite a few Greek islands and found this book extremely useful. I recently went to the Cyclades and the detail was excellent, however if you're going to Syros/Myknonos area I'd also pack Nobble Hospital of the Aegean by Paul Judges which offers some fascinating insights.

This is a great guide whether you are island-hopping or simply someone who likes to go to Greece for your holidays. Also the format is very user-friendly and easier to navigate around than its main rival - The Rough Guide. The only Greek Islands guide book you'll ever need.

This is a great guide whether you are island-hopping or simply someone who likes to go to Greece for your holidays. Also the format is very user-friendly and easier to navigate around than its main rival - The Rough Guide. The only Greek Islands guide book you'll ever need.

This book was fantastic and helped us make the most of our time in Athens.
we took our 2 sons(aged 3 and 5)without any great expectations of this city providing them with much, but thinking they should see the sights too.
Lonely Planet suggested a handful of venues suitable for children and each one was perfect.
Maps and dining out were equally invaluable.
Excellent travel guide.
