. Hamlet (Penguin Shakespeare)
by: William Shakespeare
April 07, 2005
'Hamlet' can be written about in so many ways. The tragedy which runs throughout is of great importance to the structure of the play's plot, the development of the many interesting characters, and the final bloodthirsty conclusion. Shakespeare carefully and thoroughly develops the character of Hamlet to display him as a person who suffers a weakness in making concrete decisions; like the typical young man that Shakespeare considers, Hamlet dithers, is led astray by wondering thoughts and even fears, and eventually falls into an abyss of madness which few other characters in literature can be seen to do. The book itself is well laid out, with a decent foreword and endnotes. Recommended.

. King Richard II (New Penguin Shakespeare)
by: William Shakespeare
January 31, 1974
In some respects I think it'd be rather presumptuous of me to attempt to review Shakespeare. Someone so well known and influential wouldn't benefit from my opinions on their work, plus there are more scholarly and concise reviews out there. But I can comment on these Arden versions. Of all the Shakespeare I've read I've always found the Arden copies to be well laid out and to have excellent commentary and notes on the text. They really add to your understanding of Shakespeares outstanding plays and introduce you to the depth in his work. They have superb paper quality and are bound well, withstanding repeated readings and intensive study. For your collection of Shakespeare you can't do much better than Arden publications, some are quite hard ... Read More:

. The Winter's Tale (Penguin Shakespeare)
by: William Shakespeare
April 07, 2005
The Winter's Tale contains some of the most technically difficult solutions to telling a story that have ever appeared in a play. If you think you know all about how a play must be constructed, read The Winter's Tale. It will greatly expand your mind. The play opens near the end of a long visit by Polixenes, the king of Bohemia, to the court of his childhood friend, Leontes, the king of Sicily. Leontes wants his friend to stay one more day. His friend declines. Leontes prevails upon his wife, Hermione, to persuade Polixenes. Hermione does her husband's bidding, having been silent before then. Rather than be pleased that she has succeeded, Leontes goes into a jealous rage in which he doubts her faithfulness. As his jealousy grows, he takes actions ... Read More:
