. Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga)

Breaking Dawn is the final book in the acclaimed Twilight series, and in this book we finally find out the fate of Bella, Edward and Jacob...Don't worry, no spoilers here!
Meyer surprised me with this book, it went in directions that I wasn't expecting. Before I read this book I truly didn't believe that there was a way Meyer could conclude this series that would satisfy me. There didnt seem to be a way to do justice to all the chacters that I love. I'm happy to say that she did a great job, and despite my fears I am satisfied with how it turned out for the heroes!
I have given this book 4 out of 5 and my reasoning for this is that although this book is probably one of the best you'll read this year it isn't the best ... Read More:

. The Forgotten Garden

I thoroughly enjoyed The House at Riverton but felt the storyline was very weak. This was far better. It was a great story albeit slightly drawn out. I agree with a negative reviewer who said the book was full of cliches and sterotypes but I loved it. I think a cliche must have been good in the first place and all these sterotypical characters and plotlines work, otherwise they wouldn't have cliched or sterotypical status.
In The Forgotten Garden there is a mix of plot, historical detail, goodies. baddies and mysteries to keep you reading. I've enjoyed this more than anything I've read for a long time. Hugely entertaining.

. The Road Home

I had read one of Rose Tremain's other novels, 'Restoration' previously and loved it, so decided to try this latest one despite the fact that the premises of the two novels were very different. I wasn't disappointed, this story engaged me right from the first page and I actually read it in just two sittings, unable to put it down.
I can't comment on the accuracies or otherwise of Lev's home country as I am boringly and quintessentially English, but seeing England through Lev's eyes made me feel as though mine had been opened a bit more, which to me isn't a bad thing. Lev's friendships, especially with Christy and Lydia, were heartwarming and they all had back stories of their own which I found fascinating.
Minor criticisms ... Read More:

. The Outcast

I don't understand, why is everyone raving about this book? I just don't get it. I have struggled to finish it, but it's completely put-downable, it's difficult to care about any of the characters, who didn't come to life in my mind, there's no real emotion coming through and the writing style makes it impossible to immerse yourself in this book. The viewpoint jumps from character to character, often three or four times in the space of one passage, so you can't work out whose head you're supposed to be in and the language jumps from simplistic to self-conscious. As other reviewers have pointed out, there is no redemption either, no particular reason for staying with the characters. I wouldn't feel so duped if this book hadn't been so over-hyped. THis really is the ... Read More:

. East of the Sun
City Travel Guides > Books > Subjects

If you are looking for a book that is going to change your life or have a profound effect on your soul than you are wasting your money. If, however, you are looking for a gently unfolding story that doesn't tax the brain and evokes the sights and smells of India then you will probably enjoy this book. I have given the book a high mark because I think it is very succesful as a relaxing read. My major criticism is that the end seemed rather rushed, as if the author got bored or just wasn't sure how to end it.
