I have read a few of Peter James's books and loved them all but I have to say that although I did enjoy this one, I found it a bit slow moving and not as gripping as the others I have read.
It's still a good read and I loved the ending, that was a good twist on the last couple of pages, but I do think that he has written other better novels than this one.

. The GI Diet: The Easy, Healthy Way to Permanent Weight Loss
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: Rick Gallop
January 06, 2005
This book explained the theory behind the GI diet as well as the principles of healthy eating in general. It then combines a pure GI approach alongside other good preactice such as low calorie and low fat to flag foods as red/yellow or green. You can eat pretty well what you like from green, a little of yellow and avoid red. Simple but effective.
Does it work? Yes. I lost a stone(14lbs) in the first month and the rate has now steadied at the predicted 1 pound/week. I haven't felt hungry, in fact on occasion I've felt like it was too much! The hardest bit is applying it while away from home on business trips and although Gallop gives a few tips its still tricky finding suitable foods. Be aware that this is a more "strict" diet ... . Fade Away
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: Harlan Coben
May 24, 2002
I thought this book was superb from start to finish. I had only read 'Promise Me' in the Myron Boliter series which i was impressed with so decided to check this out and it surpassed even that! I thought the plot was great, starting off as a straight forward missing person scenario then exploding into something more sinister and deeper with so many twists along the way. I loved the characters, especially Myron and Win, the latter being so mysterious that you almost want him to feature in the book more. The twist at the end is great, certainly kept me guessing and more importantly it ties everything together. Can't wait to read another Boliter novel.

. The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi, 1857
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: William Dalrymple
April 02, 2007
Dalrymple produces fantastically readable books and this history of 1857 is no exception. This, is perhaps one of the few histories written I English that attempts to use Urdu sources (the other notable book that does so is Amaresh Misra's War of Civilisations). However, Dalrymple doesn't make as extensive use of Urdu and Persian sources as he could have and he is over reliant on Ghalib and one or two others to portray the social history of the mutiny. However the book is still a wonderful read bursting with information and it attempts to portray a balanced view of the events. Dalrymple interweaves contemporary sources with his text masterfully and his inclusion and discussion of some of the poetry of the time makes for a most welcome distraction. Similarly the chapter ... . The Food Doctor Everyday Diet Cookbook
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: Ian Marber
January 05, 2006
I started Ian's detox on Tuesday, Wednesday morning I had already dropped nearly 2 kg and was not hungry once during Tuesday! I can't believe how much I have lost and although the clear soup is a bit of a strange taste, the other recipes creates some great flavours and I have even made my own houmous and pesto, not only has this book helped me loose weight without being hungry but has also got me enjoying cooking. I should point out I am only slightly over weight and still can't believe how easily the weight has come off (day 4 now and I am nearly 4 kg lighter, if that is all I am happy!!!)
If you don't loose weight through this book I want to know why...

. A Gathering Light
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: Jennifer Donnelly
May 03, 2004
A fantastic piece of writing that I enjoyed immensely. The blurb talks about it being based on a real murder at the turn of the century - this is at the start of the 1900s. The person murdered is a young girl who is read about by Mattie through her letters. Mattie wants to become a writer and is great friends with Weaver who is an academic like herself. Naturally her teacher becomes her greatest influence and Mattie would do anything to be able to read more material and write. Or would she? Her life is mapped out for her already - live in the neighbourhood, acquire a husband and children and in the meantime continue to look after her own family.
I enjoyed reading about Mattie's life and the decisions she made. The reader always feels involved, almost as if Mattie ... Read More:

. Drop Shot
City Travel Guides > Books > Bargain Books
by: Harlan Coben
May 02, 2002
`Drop Shot' is the second book in the Myron Bolitar series, written by Harlan Coben. The story begins when during a big match at the US Open, a tennis star is gunned down and killed. The lead suspect is the player who was playing on the main court during the shooting. The suspect is also Myron's client, so he goes on the hunt for the killer, getting on the nerves of everyone involved on his way, which leads him to an older murder from six years ago.
I recently read the first book in the series, Deal Breaker, and absolutely loved it and started reading this immediately afterwards and although the story was fast paced and exciting, with some excellent characters and some wonderful and witty dialogue, I had guessed who the killer was and what the twist was about 100 pages into ...
