This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

The first thing to say is that the Michel Thomas way is perfect for me. I did his Spanish course and it gave me the motivation to take conversation lessons. The big problem is not the saying or reading of a language, it is the listening to others and understanding what they are saying that is difficult. So, having completed the Italian course I feel very confident with the structure and cognate vocabulary, and I just need to practice. Having followed Michel Thomas's Spanish course in the past I have to say that I found the Italian version less comprehensive than the Spanish. Being a beginner in Italian I have bought other books which are difficult to get in to. However this book is excellent and the cassettes which accompany them are fantastic. They give you the chance to repeat what is said in dialogues and are very good.

I enjoy Quickstart Italian mainly because it is an easy introduction split into bitesize sections. In each 10 minute segment you'll learn three or four phrases useful in circumstances such as in a taxi, hotel, restaurant etc. Do a lesson or two a day and in a couple of weeks you'll have a much better grasp of basic Italian than you did before. I agree with another reviewer that the frequent use of the title music is a bit annoying but I found the course effective and accessible which is something. My only criticism of the course is that it gives no explanation of verb structure leaving you stuck in the tenses that they use. However, Michel Thomas' Introductory course gives excellent coverage of verb structure but doesn't cover the everyday usage that ... Read More:

With a holiday to Italy coming up, preceded by several long car journeys, I bought three language CDs to listen to in the car: Earworms, Learn in Your Car Complete Language Course and BBC Quickstart and I'd rate them them in that order, Earworms being easily the best and getting 5 stars. I found all of them easy to use in the car, although in the end I felt they were better suited to short journeys rather than doing a lot in one go.

Unlike the other two, which are aimed at the holiday goer, Learn in Your Car is a complete language course, just as it says on the cover, and is good value for money. I'm a big fan of the Michel Thomas series and love his recordings. However this 'addition' to the series is very disappointing primarily for the reasons cited by other reviewers - poor pronunciation on the part of the presenter/teacher. Why couldn't they have found a presenter who is genuinely bilingual? I really tried to get through the set but couldn't take it any more after two discs.

I am Italian native speaker and bought this course for my girlfriend. I am totally unsatisfied by the bad quality of this product. The girl speaking has really a bad and nasty American accent, not mentioning the other two guys (only one is probably Italian).

Apart from lots of unnecessary comments that in my opinion make this course quite tiring, I noticed severe spelling errors and basic grammar errors. And the main voice should repeat the sentences with the right pronunciation rather than pronuncing all the sentences badly.

It's incredible that we had to pay for this, I was tempted to bring it back straight.

This programme is a one CD distillation of the 5 hour advanced course (see my review below this paragraph, as it covers the same material). The advanced course covers all of the tenses in the Italian language and gives you the opportunity to practise. It is fantastic! However, there was always a problem that when you came to review the material you had to listen to the two students thinking out their answer (as the tapes were recorded real-time and not scripted). The editing process has removed the two students and just leaves Michel asking a question in English and then giving the answer in Italian. It is a fantastic resource for really over learning this material so that it becomes second nature and will improve your fluency. A recommendation to buy.
