If you are fascinated by the hypocrisy of the Victorians, you'll love this book. If you want to read a great murder mystery, you should probably search out a work of fiction instead.

The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher has a wide charter: Tell the story of the murder of three-year-old Saville Kent in his English country home, describe the police investigations, relate the public reaction to the murder and investigations, detail what happened to the characters, help us understand our psychological need to read detective fiction, and provide new insight into the seeds of the crime.

This a frightening but fascinating book, which brings together the keen-eyed journalism Glenny displayed in the 1990s, with a tale of the kind of organised crime that touches us all, whether we know it or not.

Not John Grisham's usual but we know the result from the start. All the police are stupid and the accused and Grisham are wonderful.

I did not enjoy this but his next book, Playing for Pizza, was worse!

I loved his earlier books but he's having a problem. Good luck Mr. Grisham. get better!

An important look at a side of society we don't often get to see (at least those of us not living in an inner-city area). It was great to learn that the police needn't always be left helpless by budget cuts and political correctness. The scene where Harry is given his 'office' - technically a stock cupboard - is fantastic. Highly recommended.

This is one of the finest books I have ever read. It is gripping and vivid from start to finish and evokes fascination and emotion. It is also cleverly worked in the structural sense in that a picture of the killers, the murdered family, the police and the community is painted through quotations from actual people who were there at the time.

Read quite a lot of these style of books and they all seem to have pretty much the same lines,ie us real gangsters,us real hard men and its more like an ego trip thing however this guy is slightly different in that hes actually educated but still lets himself down by making himself out to be the toughest man on the planet and as we all know most of these types only tell the story when they are winners never losers,however history usually tells the true story even great toughs like the late Lenny McLean & Roy Shaw were beaten by fairly average people so on that score the story i felt was more of the same,as for racism certainly never saw any of that maybe there were more white dealers than colours , but all in all if you like the hood element this book is quite interesting

Having read some of the reviews on here i was dubious of reading this book. However, i decided to when i saw it on the shelf at the library.
No one can understand what the family and friends of Lee went through. The only people that know the real Lee are those closes to him. All i know is that i would never believe a word that comes out of Tracie Andrews mouth. Some people are under the impression that they were both as bad as each other, i personally do not believe this. I cant say i enjoyed reading this book but it was nice to hear the story from Maureen. I had forgotten a lot of the information, reading it again i just hope she stays behind bars for as long as possible!

I didn't think I could finish this book. It really effected me that so much evil could still exist in the name of a God that despises child abuse.
The three sisters were very brave to allow this book to go to print and tell the truth. The sad thing is that I believe I met some of the group on a trip to Portugal many years ago, without realising the full extent of the cult's beliefs. I can still see the face of the small little girl who was performing for us...
