. The Gambia and Senegal (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Gambia and Senegal
by: Katharina Lobeck

Luckily I wasn't totally put off by your previous reviewer who complained bitterly about the mis-reference to Timbuctu and I bought the book!
I had previously purchased the 2nd edition of this guide and wasn't too impressed by it. However, this third edition is by a new author who has lived in Senegal and it has been completely revised. It is full of useful practical and background information for the curious traveller, even for those that have only booked a package to the Gambian Coastal resorts. Armchair travellers should find it an interesting read as well.
I am shortly going on a 14 day escorted adventure tour to Senegal and Gambia, and if the Amazon review system allows a second bite at the cherry, I hope to ... Read More:

. Lonely Planet : The Gambia & Senegal
City Travel Guides > Books > Gambia and Senegal
by: David Else
March 31, 1999
This is a comprehensive summary of most of what the independent traveller will need in The Gambia, and probably Senegal too (although this reviewer's experience was limited to one day in Senegal, so the book wasn't really "road-tested" there). It is particularly good on the cultural history and ethnic makeup of The Gambia, but is also packed full of essential information, right down to the names and likely locations of individual money-changers! Tourists and first-time visitors will benefit from the useful maps and lists of nightclubs etc, and the warnings about the pushiness and tricks of the hucksters, but nothing can prepare one for little kids desperate for any gifts. But don't be put off - the Gambian people are exceedingly ... Read More:

. The Gambia (The Bradt Travel Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Gambia and Senegal
by: Craig Emms

Quite simply, this changed the way I holidayed in the Gambia. I have been on previous occassions and followed my rep's advice or locals' suggestions.... but this brought me the freedom to explore so much more. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that you buy this book, whether you are going for a week's winter sun or a month cycling though central or eastern Gambia or doing community work for many months. The only negative is it's slightly out of date as the beaches around Kololi are now restored and several new restaruants, bars and hotels are now open! A wonderful guide to a fantastic country!
