City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Libya (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
.Libya (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Libya

The first edition was rather better. It was better laid out and easier to read. The typeface in the new edition is smaller, the maps are smaller, and my subjective impression is that material on the main sites, Leptis and Sabratha, is less extensive than it was. Frankly it should be rather more extensive! Otherwise it is reasonably up to the standard of most such guides, although I concur with the reviewer who said that it's erroneous in parts.

My first impression was that the author had been 'got at' by the Libyan authorities. I particularly noticed the omission of comments about hotels that would throw you out of your room unless you agreed to buy their foul-tasting evening meals have gone, for instance; or mention of sleepy ... City Travel Guides Discounted Books : The Lost Oases
.The Lost Oases
City Travel Guides > Books > Libya
by: A.M. Hassanein Bey

March 15, 2006
In beautiful prose, a classic account of a 2200 mile camel trek through the Libyan desert from the Egyptian coast to the south of Sudan. I bought this book after a trip to the desert Oasies of the Western Egyptian desert. The author, and Oxford educated Egyptian diplomat, captures perfectly the stark beauty and peace of the desert. City Travel Guides Discounted Books : South from Barbary: Along the Slave Routes of the Libyan Sahara
.South from Barbary: Along the Slave Routes of the Libyan Sahara
City Travel Guides > Books > Libya
by: Justin Marozzi

May 07, 2002
This is a charming book - amusing, romantic and through Mr Marozzi's skilful prose, stunningly real and touchingly humane. He has an interesting style that is modern yet at the same time delightfully archaic and without a hint of pomposity or vulgarity. In combining his experiences with fitting references to works and comments from past explorers, he manages to recapture the spirit of British exploration and adventure with erudition and humour. In short, I found this book fascinating and inspirational.

by: Anne McLachlan

May 31, 1999
Having been on an organized trip to Egypt, I bought the footprint guide which I found very interesting. The information was relevant and there a lot about the history/culture etc. At the same time I felt confident that the information given about accomodation/transport would have been sufficient for an independant traveller (based on the quality of the historical and cultural information provided). Thanks Footprint for a very good travel guide!

.Libya: The Lost Cities of the Roman Empire
City Travel Guides > Books > Libya
by: Antonino Di Vita, Ginette Di Vita-Evrard, Lidiano Bacchielli

1998-06
Living in Libya for three years (oil industry)gave me the opportunity to visit and photograph these great Roman cities on numerous weekendtrips and gain a good first hand knowledge of all the ruins. I was quite surprised to find this excellent book (good price!!) in London after my return; the Italian archeologists can only be congratulated. Not only are the photographs providing a very good documentation and are allowing for an impression of the real thing but also the text is quite informative and up to scientific standards. Some of my Libyan collegues used to joke: "If you know Leptis Magna, you can forget about the Forum Romanum". Having seen both I can only agree.
