This is a good enough tourist guide - if you are staying in the south but is very weak on the north. Updates are urgently required as information is very much out of date by a few years
The Bradt guide on Mozambique is far superior.
I've been to Mozambique three times now and I also recommend a good map.

Naipaul is immensely skillful in his interweaving of his own feelings and impression with those of the people he meets on his African travels. There are times when the narrative is allowed to linger on subjects which do not seem particularly relevant to the Africa he is exploring, but generally the book is a fine overview of the continent, its legacies, and the problems it faced at the time Naipaul was writing.
