As travel guides go, this one combines three very different places... first there's Singapore with its very modern outlook. Then there's Malaysia bridging the vibrant outlook of Kuala Lumpur with the colonial history of Georgetown. Finally there's Brunei which is a whole lot more laid back.

In terms of contents, there's the usual details of history, etiquette, sights etc. There's also the usual combination of excellent maps with only the occassional mistake where a particular landmark has been put on the wrong side of the road. Restaurant and accomodation advice are as usual mixed (many are gone by the time you visit) but it certainly provides good ideas if you are struggling to find somewhere, and also tells you the general ... Essentially 'Wild Borneo' equates to an illustrated list of the plants and animals of the island and in which regions they are found. Although it is of course impossible to mention every species, the book does a good job of covering most groups in reasonable detail.

The book begins with a section on the various habitats on the island and the main floral components of each. The second section is by far the largest and features extensive chapters on all the animal groups in varying amounts of detail. The book concludes with several small sections on human impact and conservation.

A disappointing guide, especially if you want to go Borneo, there's a general lack of detail and a feeling of it being out of date.
Also not much information for scuba divers and the book omitted the island of Layang Layang altogether.
It was better for the more commonly travelled places such as KL and Penang on peninsular malaysia.

We found it very useful, and the great advantage is it's not too big!!

The one gripe i do have is that it gives border info as if you are travelling south to north (penisular malaysia). I wasn't, so it was frustrating to find the advice for getting to the towns beyond the border only went as far as "...to get to Hat Yai take a bus...etc...".
