This is the most wonderful book I've ever read. She is whitty, charismatic and her insights and paths are so similar to mine I was able to relate on every page. Even if this is not similar to your path (some of my happily or newly married friends were not fussed by it) she stresses the importance of getting in touch with who you really are and how to find you. I have bought about 10 of these books and have given them to friends around the world from all walks of life. Amazing book I give it my highest recommendation.

Took this book on our Honeymoon to Bali in September. Absolutely essential tool for finding the huge number of hidden treasures. We were at Nusa Dua which was poorly covered, but bare in mind that the Lonely books are for your globe trotting surfer.
But the rest of the island was very well covered and gave some great detail on the main attractions.
The Island guide was very useful giving details of local customs and amenities.
Would make sure this is in your pocket when you go.
A few tips
1. Watch the "helpers" at the airport, they will swamp you at the conveyor and fleece you for the pleasure of carrying your bag. Just say no.

This is currently by default both the best overall guide to Indonesia for independent travellers, and the only one that is remotely up to date.
The competition (Moon, Footprint, Rough Guides) seems to have given up covering this vast archipelago years ago. For this reason alone, the book still gets 4 stars from me, despite some shortcomings and amusingly striking errors outlined later.
It definitely covers enough attractions to keep people occupied for months, and is more than enough for those with an average interest in the country.
As usual with this series, it covers practical details like prices, public transport and city maps, though unusually for Lonely Planet, many prices in this book (especially for public transport and guiding ... Read More:

Described as an Activity Guide book, Diving the World is much more than that. Yes, the facts are there; yes, all the information you could possibly want is there and, yes, its opened my eyes to diving destinations which I never ever knew existed. But here's the bonus ..... it's written with real style, the photographs are fabulous, the attention to detail is meticulous and its a joy to read. We're divers but so many of our non-diving friends are compelled to pick it up and browse through the pages that its now become part of the 'coffee table' reading. Its a great gift for divers and non divers alike.

Essentially 'Wild Borneo' equates to an illustrated list of the plants and animals of the island and in which regions they are found. Although it is of course impossible to mention every species, the book does a good job of covering most groups in reasonable detail.

The book begins with a section on the various habitats on the island and the main floral components of each. The second section is by far the largest and features extensive chapters on all the animal groups in varying amounts of detail. The book concludes with several small sections on human impact and conservation.

The big disappointment of this book is in fact the photographs. Although they show good profiles of the animals, they rarely feature any behaviour or character so ... Read More:

Some reviewers are disappointed by the lack of useful information on Borneo. They have missed the point. This is not a travel guide. It's a book aiming to give an entertaining account of an expedition.

It succeeds wonderfully. The ups and downs of his relationship with his travelling companion, journalist and poet James Fenton, are (it seems) honestly portrayed. O'Hanlon does not shy away from making himself look like an idiot; indeed it the stock comic trope of the book. Some scenes are so funny that they made me giggle, snort and laugh out loud on the London Underground - which is not the done thing.

But I give the book five stars because of the quality of his writing. As well as being amusing, he just writes beautifully.
