. Cuba (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Cuba

For my first trip to Cuba, this book was pretty accurate, up to date and informative in terms of places to visit, tourist attractions, what to do and where to go. It gives you useful advice on how much you are expected to tip, what to expect of the country and how to get around and where to go which was very useful. The only negative aspect of this book was probably the design layout. It covers a vast majority of aspects of Cuba which can be a lot to get through, the layout is quite difficult to read and its mostly black and white columns of writing do not make it appealing. As it is written from first hand experience it is definitely a very useful book for first time traveller's however a lot of the entertainment they had suggested for Havana, ... Read More:

. Cuba (Eyewitness Travel Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Cuba
from: Dorling Kindersley Publishers Ltd
August 02, 2007
This truly is a thorough and comprehensive travel guide, giving readers not only a great idea of what to expect when they visit Cuba, but also a great deal of other information regarding the scenery of Cuba, it's social and political history, it's key political figures, and a wealth of information on it's art and culture.
All of which is rich and fascinating, creating a picture of an intriguing country of great warmth and openness; a country which is well worth visiting, if only for the pure white sand and the nature which is a veritable feast for poets and painters. This book will tell you pretty much everything you could possibly need to know about Cuba. Read it and read about an entirely different way of life.

. The Rough Guide to Cuba (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Cuba
by: Fiona McAuslan, Matthew Norman

In short, the rough guide to Cuba was a sincere disappointment to me.
Of course it was not all bad, the almost 700 pages certainly contain loads of background information about Cuba which are informative and worthwhile to read. However, there a three major points that bug me the most and which I consider to be essential to any travel guide.
1) Maps: Detailed maps of Cuba, its provinces and its cities are vital for travelling around. Especially the regional maps lack in detail with important places left of the map. When directions in the guide are phrased as such: "the best place to stay in the mountain area is the villa santo domingo, about 68km souhtwest of Bayamo" and the place is not on any map it is somewhat hard to find.

. A Rough Guide Map Cuba (Rough Guide Map)
City Travel Guides > Books > Cuba
by: Rough Guides
July 31, 2003
Having just returned from a 17 day trip to Cuba, with visits to Havana, then driving to Viñales (170km to the East), back to Havana, down to Cienfuegos, Trinidad and up to Cayo Santa Maria, then back to Havana, I depended on this map and found it severely wanting. Cuba has very limited signage on any roads to anywhere - imaging driving round the M25 with only 10% of the existing road signs to tell you what the next junction is for and you have a good idea - and you need an accurate map and this isn't it. The scale @ 1:850,000 is too small to show accurate turnings off, so you think you're going through a village and turning left but you discover that there are multiple options and not just the "only" turn left the map suggests. Second, there are no ... Read More:
