We just returned from a three weeks holidays to Dominica and we really loved the island! We had bought this Bradt guidebook of Paul Crask and it is an excellent book! We found the book extremely accurate in details as well as a good description of atmosphere and backgrounds (e.g. in the description how "fair trade" really makes a difference). Furthermore, the description of the many hikes are very accurate, we walked many of them.

During our holidays we have read and used almost every page of this guidebook, and it helped us enjoying the island in the best possible way! By reading the book, you notice that the author really loves the people of Dominica, as well as its unspoilt natural environment.

Earlier dive guides I have used have come from the Globetrotter series - who do not have a guide for Barbados, which is what I was looking for. Coming to the "Complete Diving Guide" after the high standards of Globetrotter is something of a disappointment. There is nothing wrong with the book in terms of the content it is providing - it gives information on the sites, some (though by no means all) dive schools, and a little background on the islands. However, the writing style is very narrative - think "what I did on my diving holiday this summer" type essays. The presentation is also a bit dated. It is not a bad guide by any means, but if Globetrotter do get around to publishing on the area, it is almost certain to be a better bet.

Earlier dive guides I have used have come from the Globetrotter series - who do not have a guide for Barbados, which is what I was looking for. Coming to the "Complete Diving Guide" after the high standards of Globetrotter is something of a disappointment.
