This is one of the most enjoyable books i have read in recent years, written in a wonderful accessible style, it contains marvellous detail, and unusual facts about all aspects of France. This is really a first class book, and a great summer read.

Only that it's good, has clear mapping and lots of detailed information. It has a ring binding, which I like as this enables you to keep the book open at the desired page without damaging it. It also has a complete index of towns and villages at the back, and each of the city centre maps has its own street index - very useful. Not to mention the small scale route planning map and the map of administrative departments. What more could you need? And it's just about small enough to fit in your glove compartment. So if it seems a little heavy, unwieldy and difficult to navigate at times, well, France is a lot bigger than England.

When my book came through the post and flicked through the pages, I actually started juming about and screaming!!! The pictures are so amazing. I was in so much excitement about the holiday I am going on this summer. I am going cycle touring in France, and this book is going to become my bible. Infact I was so impressed by it, I planned my whole route so that I could pick up as many campsites as possible. Trust me, the campsites are totally stunning, well thats if you think stunning is beautiful, rural, and peaceful campsites with breath taking views!

I was initially sceptical about the purpose of this book - I kept thinking, is this just a fantastic marketing exercise, an extended advertisement for a beautiful boutique place in France, something I could find in one of the glossy foodie or travel mags? And in a way, yes - but it is so much more, and so beautifully and engagingly done that I have completely succombed to its many charms. It really is the stuff of dreams - only these guys really did it, and did it with great success. It is a gorgeously put-together book, with seductive recipes - I salivate just reading them through, the mark of a favourite cookbook in the making for me. The Collins Phrase books (I have used several of the new editions including French, Spanish and Italian while travelling around Europe) are great. They are easily navigable with colour coding for different sections - all the essentials you need for getting by on holiday - shopping, using transport, accommodation, top tips - my favourite bit though, and that which I couldn't do with out, is the awesome menu reader! By far my favourite part of the any holiday is eating and the format is nice and compact so can fit in your handbag/purse easily. They're really discreet for bringing out at the dinner table, pretty much fitting in your hand, and avoiding the truly obvious tourist look! I compared the Michelin A4 guide against other guides. To me the Michelin guide is much more detailed, and is a perfect size for the car
Also saved £4.55 through Amazon to the RRP, and received it the day after ordering it, even though I'd selected the free postage option - great service.

A fantastic book, which you really should buy if you plan on seeing France. The amount of information in here is vast, and yet readable (I read it cover to cover as bed time reading to plan my travels!). On the one hand it is full of practicalities such as telephone numbers, opening hours, travel information etc. but it also uses good descriptive language so vivid as to give you a good 'feel' for places, stirring up mental images of those Parisian cafes and Provencal meadows that possess a certain je ne sais quoi...

A very well written book and guide to France. It has great advice on eating out. banking, driving and even buying or renting a home. Plus all the hot spots and nice places to visit off the main track.

I can't believe that the best feature of this map isn't made clear in the description. It is made of polyester film, therefore it is all but indestructible. Rain, clumsy folding or stuffing into pockets/handbags will do nothing to dim the brilliance of this fine map.

A clear enough scale to read all the street names, without being too large. Also, being indestructible, it can be folded and refolded to show just the part of town you are in (or searching for!)

There are only a couple of minor gripes. Firstly, the map would be better if it extended a way further north, as only half of Montmartre is shown. Secondly, the Metro plan is too small to read easily, and covers only the city centre.
