My husband and I spent 4 days driving the south of Iceland in August 2007 and this book was great. The maps were spot on and the recommendations were spot on. We particularly loved the lobster soup at the Saegreifinn restuarant in Reykjavik and tried the whale meat kebab. Using this guide and the recommendations in it, we managed to go dog sledding, snow mobiling and whale watching. The only thing we missed was seeing Puffins, however they apparently left 2 weeks before we arrived, so we can't put that blame on the guide. Definitely the best guide out there for Iceland, highly recommended.

We bought or borrowed various guidebooks to bring to Iceland but this was the one we used most as we travelled around the country.

It has a nice mix of practical details and interesting background. The maps are clear and the descriptions of places are accurate. The "highlights" at the start of each chapter are well chosen.

If you are only bringing one guidebook on your trip to Iceland, this is the one to have.

Whilst this map is a good map for travelling around Iceland I was very disappointed that it doesn't cover any of the towns/city in detail. Would be much better if it had a detailed map of Rejkavik as I would think most people who hire cars pick them up from here or the airport. Now I need to buy another map that does cover Rejkavik.

These guides have it right, inspiring photos , not too many spots and some key details- sometimes deliberately wrong??? Enough to get you out searching.

Normally with a book I'll read it in a couple of day's, but with this I'm having trouble. I really want to finish it, some of the humour is really quite funny, but the rest is just drivel.
Mr Moore reminds me of what I dislike about human society. Making friends with people, getting them to help him and not giving anything in return.

I'm sure some people do find this book an entertaining read.
But if you don't want to hear a middle class man, ramble on about a negative view of the world. Then don't bother.

This book is packed with beautiful photographs of Iceland - a country I was lucky enough to visit this year. It's memory has a hold which seems to grow stronger and I have since purchased about four books on this beautiful place. This has terrific photographs which seem to concentrate on the colour and patternation of the land. If you are looking for a picture postcard book of places you may have seen - this is not necessarily it. (However, there is a very interesting section revealing the nature of the land and its people which does give interesting information). But if you are looking for Fine Art photography of breath-taking landscapes, then this book is for you. The natural colours are beautifully recreated and prove that nature has the best pallete ... Just come back from East Greenland (Kulusuk and Tasiilaq), and considering that this is an area that is not really set up for massive amounts of tourism, the book gave a good idea of what to expect.

The recommendations for accommodation were excellent, and you could tell that the author knew and loved Greenland and the Arctic.

Possibly could have done with a bit more warning on Greenland time, which is basically the theory that you should just ignore the specific times that you are given, and expect everything to happen up to 4 hours after you were told it would! Oh, and the general lack of a sewage system did come as a bit of a surprise, but we may just have missed that part of the book!
