. "Time Out" Stockholm (Time Out Stockholm)

I can't give this book enough praise. As someone who has lived in Stockholm for 3 years but is too busy to see the sights, it was incredibly helpful to me while recently entertaining friends and family that came to visit this February. Winter in Sweden is always difficult, but this book had so many suggestions that we didn't have enough time to see everything! The sightseeing and restaurant sections are particularly good. Even my Swedish husband agrees that the restaurants chosen are actually ones that Swedes enjoy and there were also several wonderful places in the book that he had never heard of (we have tried several and have not been disappointed)! The sightseeing section was most valuable to me for opening times and prices of tours in ... Read More:

. The Rough Guide to Sweden (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Sweden

Being an undeniable fan of "The Rough Guide" Series, the guide to Sweden packs in the ususal mix of what to do, where to stay and all the other facts and commentary that we have all grown to love. Having spent 6 weeks travelling in central and southern Sweden, The Rough Guide did not fail to disappoint! Being a country that most people will have little to no real knowledge of, the guide is an essential companion. I was pleased by the level of detail that the guide contained, not just on the big three cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo. To experience the best that Sweden has to offer, you need to get out into the countryside, and the guide covers all the essentials using its typically honest and frank style. Read More:

. Stockholm (Lonely Planet Encounter)
City Travel Guides > Books > Sweden
by: Cristian Bonetto
September 01, 2007
Considering that this was published in late 2007, it was so out of date and inaccurate. The symbols on the maps were incorrect in a couple of places, the layout of the book was extremely frustrating and it was more of a stress to keep remembering pages and reverting back for more information. There was next to nothing on accommodation and most restaurants for the evening were high end of the price range. I thought Lonely Planet would point to more affordable places to choose from.
It did, however, make the weekend lots of fun guessing what useless 'delights' we would find in the book day by day!
I have always bought Lonely Planet guide books in the past but having been put off by this one, am not so sure!

. Sweden (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Sweden

The Lonely Planet series has been excellent for other holidays I have made (such as Finland, Austria, Venice) so I took time to read the current (3rd) edition months in advance of a short holiday in Sweden, and studied some parts very closely.
The early chapters are very upbeat - the authors are clearly thrilled by Sweden and are keen to share their enthusiasm. The history pages were well balanced and gave sufficient background to enable understanding of Sweden's present.
I have qualms with the up-to-datedness of some details which I relied on (having found out the hard way with disappointed children in tow): the examples I am thinking of is the non-existent Ice Gallery at Osterlanggatan 41 (page 74) (it has been a clothes shop for ... Read More:

. Walk and Eat Stockholm (Walk and Eat) (Walk and Eat)
City Travel Guides > Books > Sweden
by: Paul Eade
June 01, 2008
As an Expat living in Stockholm I simply highly recommend this book to anyone considering a walking break - or an 'ordinary' break or holiday - in this beautiful city. This should be your pocket-guide Bible if you are considering a walking break in the Stockholm region. At 144 pages - it is jam-packed with relevant information, advice, history, cultural insights, recipes, trivia, maps, photographs, contact information and easy-to-say Swedish phrases - all of which is equally useful for those who have no intention whatsoever of doing any trekking in, or around, the city. The guide is also especially appealing to the tastes of the 'ordinary' tourist - you don't have to be 'high-brow' to appreciate the delights recommended within. The selected walks ... Read More:

. A Short Residence in Sweden: AND Memoirs of the Author of 'The Rights of Woman' (Classics)
City Travel Guides > Books > Sweden
by: Mary Wollstonecraft, William Godwin
April 30, 1987
This edition offers two works that complement each other with a sincerity and sagacity that is inspiring. Mary Wollstonecraft, the adventurous `single' mother, proto feminist, free thinker, seeking happiness but beset by a love for a man who is unable to return her devotion. William Godwin, intellectual, Radical, an objectively passionate writer who was to become an influential force for modern biographical development. Holmes' erudite introduction helpfully explains the context for Wollstonecraft's trip to Scandinavia, providing the biographical background necessary to understand Wollstonecraft's views on diverse issues such as commerce, the role of women, capital punishment, her lover's negligence towards her and their daughter (the ill fated Fanny). ...
