The book deals with almost every aspect of both ancient and modern-day Maya life, as well as with practical travel information. I have been through La Ruta Maya on five different trips and am a fan of travel literature on Central America, but I still learned many new things from this book, especially about present-day Maya practices. Whilst there are really no good guide books on just Honduras, i found that the Rough Guide to Central America had the largest, and most imformative section on not only Honduras, but all the Central American countries - and all in one book! I have found the content a good mixture of general travel info for the area, cultural and historical background, and useful information about the practicalities of life. At first i concentrated rather on the Honduras section, but now that i am planning a gap year i have also read the other sections ...
