This is an up to date map of Costa Rica and Panama , features all the main and small roads including the new road from David to Bocas del Toro , It is made of good and resistent paper and is very clear and easy to read.
I had some maps from previous trips but nothing compared to the quality of this one , I recommened it to anyone travelling to Costa Rica or Panama who wants to go off the beaten track and explore.

As i am going to Honduras this year i really needed to get some reliable information about where i was going to help my group create a good itinerary and find out abit more about the country. Whilst there are really no good guide books on just Honduras, i found that the Rough Guide to Central America had the largest, and most imformative section on not only Honduras, but all the Central American countries - and all in one book!

I have found the content a good mixture of general travel info for the area, cultural and historical background, and useful information about the practicalities of life.

I have bought everything on Panama, so I feel qualified to comment. Some look good, but aren't honest. Some promise lots but don't deliver. This one is true. It's a proper guide - with personality, but not so much you drown in the opinions of the author. I get the impression this author really enjoyed Panama, buy she doesn't go overboard. She enjects just the right amount of enthusiam in the right places and is honest about the bad stuff. It makes you trust her judgement - a valuable quality, and one that is missing from many guidebooks on the market. A guide should be just that - A GUIDE - and this is a very good one. Take it from me, I know

Not only does Friar present a wonderful historical synopsis of the Canal, he also paints a verbal picture of life as a child growing up in the Canal Zone. The photographs of the Canal are some of the best I have seen. The captions are not "one-liners," they actually describe the what the reader is seeing in the photograph. The reader should come away with a very good knowledge of Panama Canal history and an understanding of how the Canal operates all within the 2 to 3 hours it takes to read the book.

I have read about 50 guidebooks in recent five years, from traveller's perspective - either traveling to these countries or choosing whether or not to do so - and this one turns out to be the best of all of them. I'm not exaggerating, since I'm so tired of inconsistent, untrue, uncomplete, otherwise unreliable books. This one simply doesn't have faults and is also remarkably better than the Lonely Planet's Panama.
William Friar is not advertising, not making something sound like it is not in reality, he's giving a full, truthful picture of the country and as much practical information as it is needed; as a sample I can mention Health and Safety chapter - it's just what you would need to know.
