This guide is really disappointing. It's not updated at all, it's badly written with slang expressions and silly jokes. It came out just 6 months ago and it contains so many errors about places, hotels, restaurants. The worst thing has been going to really nice hotels or good restaurants that were completely empty because this book said they are worn, with slow service, too expensive etc...Most maps are incorrect and one place is described as a " sleepy village" whereas it is a region of 5-6 villages!!All the travellers I've met along the way complained about it!

This book is so helpful when travelling through these countries. There's a comprehensive list of hostels which are accurately descripted and the maps provide a good place to start finding you way around. It also provides a good background of the places so you can get to grips with the ways of them before actually arriving. Overall, this is an excellent guide to Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.

Like another reviewer, I also bought this book after seeing the TV documentary. I cannot praise this book highly enough, it took my breath away. It is not just a tale of survival, it is a story of friendship and what can happen when these relationships come under extreme pressure, it is a tale of jungle survival explaining exactly how one would live during a trip to the rainforest. There are jaguars, monkeys, snakes, fire ants, wild boar, the list of animals is endless and fantastic to read about from first hand experience. The character portrayal of the 3 other adventurers is an enlightening & eye-opening, they all seem so charasmatic.
Buy it, it will live with you forever.

Yossi's local experience shines through in the intial advice and the route descriptions. The ranges, groups of peaks, approaches to induvidual mountains and the routes given for each peak are well laid out, clear and concise. Photgraphs are included to give an impression of the types of climbing and the setting. For the peaks and routes I have experienced the descriptions are excellent and I could have saved myself a lot of trouble if this book had been around earlier. The book is available at the same time as the infrastructure has improved to support visiting climbers so get a copy and get out there.

I was absolutely shocked to discover how badly Ian's book was estimated.In my opinion it does this book a great injustice.I found it incredibly witty, adventurous,inspiring and so much more.It's narrated with such an honest clarity that you develop a certain bond for a writer and his adventures.Throughout reading he displays so many varios and colourful descriptions that you are definitely hooked on several stories.That's why I was so surprised to read sombody's negative review.Especially after so many prominent people complimented and praised this and Ian's next book about Ireland.One thing is for sure.They are not wrong about Ian's stunning writing talent.In future I hope many other readers will share the same thoughts as me and will find Ian's ...
