This is a tricky one - the book contains useful info such as the local telephone company and such like, but having lived here 8 months, I've not used it once since my first week. It's so out of date - things seem to be build and pulled down at such a rate that you never know what's going on. For instance, the dolphin tours have been cancelled because nobody went on them and not one of the tour operators listed returned my calls. There isn't much going on in Bahrain, but everything of any note is covered in the local magazines.
It's the only book of it's kind, it's reassuring to have, but everyone in Bahrain has at least one spare copy, and if you're coming here to work you'll probably find one waiting for you at your desk.

I have been fascinated with Bahrain for about 10 months now, but have found it quite tough to get tourist advice for the country. It has some fabulous ancient sites and inspired tourist areas, but findout out about them is a chore.

Since moving to Riyadh in 1996 I've relied heavily on this Lonely Planet guide. The author has dug up loads of useful information that is often extremely difficult to obtain on the ground. I've also used it as a reference during visits to Kuwait and Bahrain and have found most of what is said in the book spot-on. I'm looking forward to the next update.

The book is very out of date. I appreciate the war has been and gone but I was recently offered a job in Kuwait and the book helped very little. In such a volatile area of the world this book needs a yearly revision.
