The thing with Dubai is that it is changing all the time. Most people who move to Dubai will purchase this book because it is updated every year, and the Explorer are the only ones to update their book regularly. Why the book is so good is because it covers everything from moving to Dubai, to the coolest restaurants and ents, to property, to construction. It is also recommended by the independant guides to Dubai, including grapeshisha.com which calls it the "must have guide to Dubai". If you are moving to Dubai, you must get this book. It will help you out with all the things you hadn't thought of.

I found this book giving an equal good versus bad account. It took off my rosey sunglasses I had on regarding how Dubai works. I can now look forward to going to Dubai with eyes wide open without being made a fool off or being taken advantage of regarding things I did not know.

When we lived in Abu Dhabi seven years ago the best current information we could find about Abu Dhabi was fifteen ill-written and inaccurate pages in a popular Middle East guide book of the time. Today we have the venerable Abu Dhabi Explorer to help us with our second residential trip to the Emirates. I have read it from cover to cover and am simply amazed by Explorer Publishing's thorough treatment of this vibrant city. If you want to know how to get a residents visa or where the best beach clubs can be found, or maybe you need to find out how to get a liquor license. It's all within this comprehensive volume of knowledge. An absolute must for anyone relocating or considering a lengthy trip to Abu Dhabi. Go on - prove me wrong!

Good but as with all travel guides you need the latest edition and this one is a bit dated. Dubai is changing so fast you must keep up to date.I also prefer smaller size guides that will fit the pocket. Lonely Planet is a bit too large to carry especially when the temperature is ove 100 F. But if you plan to go you must do the Big Bus Tour. It is the best introduction to the city.

Dubai is in a catagory by itself when it comes to officialdom. Everyone here carries about 20 passport photos, coppies of their visas and stamped company letters of "no objection" with them just to buy milk. Okay, so it's not as bad as that, but when you get here there are things you'll need to sort out very quickly, like driving licences, electricity supplies, bank accounts and cable TV. All of these will require you to wander through a sometimes bewildering maze of locations, forms and translations and one missing document means you may have wasted an entire day.
