I really love this book! It's a real joy to read and the photographs are wonderful. It's also a very practical guide and I found it really easy to visit one of the beautiful 'hidden dips' this weekend. It's going to be my essential guide to summer! I'd recommend it to everyone.

I loved this irreverent but nostalgic style of writing, it reminded me of the Manchester I grew up and worked in, and its description of Wilmslow perfectly matched the lunch I had enjoyed on a visit 2 weeks earlier. A great present for anyone who has lived in the NW in particular, although maybe better for those of us who have also lived away. I hadn't even realised some of the traits I share are northern!

If you happen to be out and about around the countryside (or towns & cities), what better way to while away a couple of hours than in a cosy pub. This is THE guide to keep at hand / in your car etc. In it you'll find the most up-to-date information there is about all the best pubs to go to for real ales, wholesome pub grub, or fine dining. I've been using the Good Pub Guides for the last few years & haven't yet been disappointed by any of the featured or recommended pubs. Well worth investing in a copy as it saves you disappointing trips to mediocre pubs, or wasted journeys to a pub only to find that they don't have on offer what you're looking for (food / children's play area etc.).

What set this 'AA' version apart from the others for me was the 'free magnetic tax disc holder' offered with the deal, however on arrival the addition was missing and there was a clear sticky trace where it had once sat.

I have contacted Amazon and hopefully the replacement they are sending will include the tax disc holder, however it is not impressive how these 'free gifts' are obviously not protected from removal prior to shipping.

The atlas itself is very clear and easy-to-use. I cannot raise fault with the product, just the service itself.

This is a brilliant boxed set, i managed to get this for under £45 which is incredible given the books individually are priced at £13 each !!

The attention to detail in these books are second to none - buy it now before the price goes back up !!

Just returned from touring southern Ireland and I found the Lonely Planet guide priceless as it gives great detail for all the attractions in Ireland. I would have missed a number of must see attractions without this book! Another guide which was much dearer (and shall remain nameless)was very poor in comparison.

This is one of Bryson's very best and cements his place as the don of travel writing.
The quality and density of his writing, brimming as it is with curious facts and gags, make him simply unbeatable when it comes to this kind of travelogue.
Bryson's greatest skill is that he makes us want to follow him around often-dull and familiar corners of Britain, Europe, Australia and America.
If you're not a fan of the genre, steer clear. But if you like his style this is a must-have.
For those looking for a starting point for this type of travel book, this is as good a place to start as any.
