We purchased this book after reading other reviews and were very disappointed. Much of the information was factually incorrect, we disagreed with hotel and restaurant recommendations and often found them to be closed down or some of the worst places we stayed or ate if we did use them. In many cases we wondered if the guide writers had even been to the places and throughout south america these books could be found in any secondhand shop that sold english books!

Also, prices are quoted in USD not local currency which makes it virtually impossible to use them as a reference. Overall very disappointing!

Like a lot of people we used to travel a lot before having kids. Now with children aged one and three we've been trying to work out the best way to holiday as a family i.e. how the kids can be happy, we can get a well deserved relaxing break, and we can have fun as a family. Not an easy thing to do. I've picked up a few of these books and they've never really got the balance right, they're either not practical enough, or they're so practical they take the fun out of the idea travelling with young a family.

I've been waiting for a book like this to come along for years and I'm not disappointed by this one. On the contrary, it's got all the best surf spots throughout Europe and Morocco and would be a valuable companion on any trip. It also includes listings for where to stay and eat and even what to do when there's no surf. Highly recommended.

We spent 4 months in Northern Spain in 2005 and took this book with us as a guide and reference book for general information. The only good thing I can say about it us that it fitted in the cubby box in the LandRover other than that we could have used it for loo roll. When you are actually on the ground, in the area travelling around and reading the book, you wonder whether the author has ever set foot there. Don't bother, just purchase the right Michelin map and go for it!! Happy travelling.

A great read and the perfect guide for the professional or amatuer. If your planning a road trip or just fancy a change from your local break then I can highly recommend this guide. We spent two weeks travelling GB and found loads of spots we'd never heard of. It's also nice to support a fellow female surfer. Have also bought the european guide which we plan to use this autumn, will let you know how we get on!

great book as it covers not just Verona but some of the cities and towns nearby, like lake garda. There was so much backround history about the area, which is quite good when most of the signs are in italian, french and german! Also has an excellent section on restaurants and cafes, again not only in Verona but the surrounding areas. We had such a great time with this book, as we passed it between us saying "do you know that...?" as we went round some of the places in the book. Its also great to syche yourself up before the trip.

It is a real shame for Symington that the second review was written: I found this guide a very useful companion when holidaying in the region. Although we weren't using it for accommodation or transport, the listings for eateries, shops, bars and clubs were excellent and spot on. As for the write ups for places and sights, they were also completely representative and helped us make the most of our time on the coast. At no point were we disappointed. Well done on a fantastic guidebook.

Footprint have been doing South America for longer than anyone. But I'd not used them anywhere else.

I was really surprised by this book. Pleasantly so. I used it in Mumbai, Delhi and Rajasthan. It is well-written and it has some great off the beaten track places and choices of accommodation and restaurants. Thanks for pointing me to a great little massala place just near the gateway to India in Mumbai and a little hotel in Jodphur refreshingly free of crowds of other backpackers.

Well, I have to disagree about this book.I was given it as a Christmas present by my son before a diving trip to Curacao...Footprint books are normally so thorough. Well, here the pictures are great but it is not "light" on the Caribbean so much as totally non-existant!So give it the title 'Long Haul Diving Destinations' and see if that gets more stars...
For Africa the Tierneys recommend Kenya but diving professionals I know recommend Mozambique,the Quirimbas;Medjumbe and Matemo.

The best way to judge a book like this is to look at areas you do know.
