. Devil May Care (James Bond)
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Sebastian Faulks
May 28, 2008
this is the first bond book ive read, i really enjoyed the storyline it starts off slow but soon picks up. fast and pulsating its hard 2 put down, its more like the old bond films which i like the storyline is very good. the book concentrates on the story being in the middle east and france and on 1 villian j.gorner with a dodgy monkey hand and his sidekick chagrin, who bond and scarlett try 2 stop an evil plot 2 blame the british 4 a near disaster. bond must b pissed in this book he drinks more booze than an alcoholic, the only thing i didn't like is all the dodgy french words with bonds time in paris. any 1 who reads this book will find a good read not a bad debut by sebastian faluks.

. This Charming Man
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Marian Keyes
April 30, 2008
After having enjoyed previous books by this author, I was quite confident that I had bought another "enjoyable, light reading" book. I really tried to get into the book, but found it slow, boring, depressing, dull. I gave up at page 220..., frustrated, and irritated by the dismal and negative tone of the book, by the fact that after 220 pages of the book, nothing has happened, the reader is still "discovering" the rather boring characters of the book (haven't even got to Alicia yet); it's terribly static. Too bad...

. The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Nassim Nicholas Taleb
February 28, 2008
This book was actually an enjoyable read. It is witty and humorous, though, as other reviewers point out, Taleb is basically infatuated with himself. But in spite of enjoying the intellectual challenges he throws at you throughout the book, I have to say that there is little real substance here. Why? Because his black swan is a dying duck. He argues that there is such a class of events as black swans - that is to say totally unpredicted events. But that "class" of events doesn't exist. Each one event that is unpredicted is a unique event and shares no common features with other such events apart from unexpectedness. He argues that the future can't be predicted accurately (well we all know that, and all too well, often from bitter experience). ... Read More:

. To Kill a Mockingbird
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Harper Lee
October 05, 1989
'To Kill a Mockingbird' is one of the best books I have read. I was moved to tears when finishing the last page. It is read through the eyes of Scout, a young girl, living in Maycombe, with her brother and father. Her father, Atticus, is a lawyer, who defends a black man accused by a white family. The book explains about predjudice in the 1930's, deep in the Southern States of America, and has a wonderful story line. The book tells of the events before, during and the aftermath of the trial of Tom Robinson, the man accused.
Many of the first chapters are about Boo Radley, a man locked up by his family, for committing a crime. We discover more about him as the book goes on. The book also has a wonderful finish.
The book is one that will stay with me for ... Read More:

. A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Eckhart Tolle
June 29, 2006
This book is so good it should be compulsary reading in schools. If every person lived their lives according to the wisdom of this book we would have no wars, no inequality, we'd respect other life forms and our environment, and we'd all be happier.
Jimmy Hendrix said: 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.' Those people who crave power are those with the most powerful eogs. If these people become aware thay they are infected with the ego disease they would surely embrace the power of love. In years to come this book will become known as the one that helped cure humanity of the ultimate cancer that is the ego.
Amazing!!!

. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Dummies
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: Rob Willson, Rhena Branch
December 16, 2005
I'm no expert on cbt or any type of psychology and I'm always slightly wary. CBT, however, was recommended to me by a psychologist to assist me to help my client group - troubled young people. I love the 'for Dummies' series as they are really easy to read but provide you with quite a broad knowledge for a layman. There is a wealth of sound practical advice in this book for everybody and I can't believe how much I'm learning about myself and my incorrect thinking and its effects. This book requires a lot of concentration (although the style of writing is easy) and effort to think the material through and also to complete the exercises but it really is life-changing. I don't know if it works really well for serious mental health problems but it is certainly working for me and ... Read More:

. The Siege of Krishnapur
City Travel Guides > Books > Search Inside!
by: J.G. Farrell
July 01, 1996
An excellent book telling of the mutiny. Whilst the book almost neglects the natives this isn't fiction dressed up as colonial propaganda. This is an incredibly humorous tale of a group of Englishmen trapped within a residency, besieged by a whole host of natives. As the siege progresses civilization, science and religion are all discussed along with the odd smattering of phrenology. An incredibly entertaining book and one very worth reading.
