Perhaps I just don't learn this way. The music did nothing for me, and I can't think of any phrases "anchored into my long term memory". Perhaps I don't play it enough.

The CD is fine if you want to learn stock phrases like "I would like to order...", "Have you got..." "Is there...." but what do you do when someone responds in German.

I want to learn German so I can ask, understand the answer and respond. It will help you "get by" but not to have a conversation - go for broke and get Michel Thomas instead.

I have a few of these CD's as I'm learning 3 languages (yes I'm obviously insane) and they are fantastic ways of learning. The guys voice is very sexy, which makes me want to listen more but the way it is set out makes it so easy to learn.
I have two children, 6 and 8 and even they are saying German phrases after listening to the cd a few times. The music is not as you'd imagine, it's not like hardcore pop tunes, but the tempo etc is enough to get your memory firing up.

Quality idea, I wish I'd though of it myself. Better than any book or other language course I have tried.

I have just moved to Germany and did a standard CD course from the local library in the UK (BBC?). It gave me some basics that got me through a few months of being here. I could ask for some coffee and count but it did not give me a foundation on which to build.
I felt that I took a bit of a risk in buying MIchel Thomas because it seems expensive but I am so glad that i did. I have been using the CDs in half term and have managed to get thought half the course without having to repeat anything. I can also practice it straight away and have been praised on my german already!! It is easy to look up words in the dictionary and place them in the correct part of the sentence. This is probably the worse course book I have ever seen. The audio bounces around the chapters so it is very difficult to follow the audio. They introduce new words without giving examples to whether it is der die or das. For all you teachers out there, this may seem quite adequate (as most teachers seem to have an elitist attitude), but for us students this is a real pain in the rear! You have to keep referring to the glossary, which really takes the fun out of learning German. As all you are really learning is now to navigate the glossary efficiently. Well, as you can imagine, by the fifth time of flipping to the glossary you're getting bored and you end up wondering off to do something more interesting. As with any language course, the most important question to ask yourself before clicking "add to shopping cart" is how far you want to take your studies in the language. If you want holiday phrases, then this course is actually a bit too advanced for that, and it is several chapters into the book before you finally reach the tourist phrases like "I need a double room". If you want holiday phrases, then TY Instant German is the better bet. On the other hand, if you want to go beyond the holiday phrases, but are prepared to accept that the job of UN translator is beyond you, then this book is ideal as a course that can guide you from no knowledge to comfortable intermediate.

This is an excellent introductory course. It progresses fairly slowly and gives the listener plenty of opportunity to listen carefully to the spoken Spanish (it is repeated). The CD's are supported by full transcripts available free at the Berlitz web site.Having the transcripts is a very big plus compared to all audio(reading alongside listening helps you
distinguish the spoken words and you learn to read Spanish as well). Very good value.

I have experience of both the French and German courses and highly recommend them for anyone who is serious about learning a language and wants to learn quickly. The cds are clear and follow a pleasant pace - pop it on when your in the car and you'll surprise yourself with how much you will remember. The books are fantastic quality too with great pictures.

You are expected to know quite a lot of German already and there are no vocabularly lists or grammar points etc. but it is good if used along side other textbooks, as it shows good examples of business german.
