I've never come across such a brilliant guidebook as this for any country I've been to. Not only is it highly informative, dependable and up to date, as you would expect, but it is also very readable. Mr Briggs' writing style demonstrates a real affection for the country which you will hopefully share by the end of your stay. We certainly did.

This book's a reasonable guide, but is eclipsed by the brilliantly written and hugely informative Bradt Guide. We took both books to Ethiopia (09/2006) and found the Bradt one to be far superior.

This book's a reasonable guide, but is eclipsed by the brilliantly written and hugely informative Bradt Guide. We took both books to Ethiopia (09/2006) and found the Bradt one to be far superior.

Almost essential during any trip to Ghana, this guide really makes it easy to locate the wealth of culture and hospitality in Ghana.

Without a guide Ghana can oft times seem at best daunting and at worst dull. This is far from the truth however, the country containing almost all of what Africa has to offer - Rainforests, Christian & Muslim Cultures, Safaris, Beautiful lakes and beaches and even *cough* the corrupting influences of the west are detailed in extraordinary depth within this guide.

This book is excellent education material, but if you are just off for you holidays its a little too much, for the AVERAGE traveller, most of the relevant information can be retrieved off sites on the net. Shame there is no real travel guide yet only this as such.

This book was invaluable when travelling in East Africa. The layout is easy to understand and it has basic country history, language and local information, as well as information about East Africa in general.
There is not as much detain in the single East Africa book as in each individual country book, and although this was in some ways irritating it was useful when making last minute travel plans. Guide books are not widely available in east Africa, but it was easy to change plans to suit our requirements with the book covering the whole area.
I would recommend a more specialised book for exploring one country in more depth, or to accompany this one.

Having read, and loved the White Masai, in just a couple of days, I was looking greatly forward to this follow up book. Having rushed out to buy it as soon as it was published, I read in as soon as I could. However, I was most dissapointed. My thoughts echo the review previous to mine. I felt that the information in this book was minimal and lacked detail or depth. It seems like a half hearted attempt of a book with no interest built up at all. Every chapter is short, lasting only a few pages, which to be honest were uninteresting and in places down right boring.
