However, with the exception of one (truly excellent) recommendation in Cornwall, we found other visits very disappointing. .London (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) City Travel Guides > Books > Alastair Sawday by: Alastair Sawday June 10, 2002 I read the introduction from Alastair Sawday's book and at once I knew this was the guide I needed. It's a funny, friendly, full of great tips. It's almost as if you are being recommended little known places and interesting tit bits on the city by a trusted friend. My boyfriend and I stayed at one of the hotels, it was one of very cheap ones, but we didn't want to pay much because we were going to a very expensive concert. Anyway it was really good value, really central (Russell Sq) and had a very upbeat feel. We have not been to Spain yet but are going in March 2004. This book is wonderful giving us valuable information on where to stay and why. We have stayed in great places and horrible places. We will never stay anywhere again without this type of information and are planning this trip around this book. Quite simply, the reason is that I have the previous edition and normally would not dream of updating with the previous version only just over a year old. However, when I saw in the foreword that there were around 50 additions in the latest, I couldn't resist (particularly given the current good offer on Amazon!). The main reason I couldn't resist is that a couple of months ago I stayed in the best hotel (note, not the one with the most stars) I have ever stayed in in this country.
