I took this out of the library after reading enthusiastic reviews but have to confess my response to this was very mixed. The explanation of metre is very short and confused and so would make no sense to anyone who hasn't already studies latin poetry and scansion; similarly the phonetic translation seems unnecessary given that you'd have had to be quite experienced in latin already to be reading these texts so presumably your pronunciation is already in place?

I was looking forward to the CDs to hear the latin read aloud, but actually as a classical latin student I was very disappointed with the selection which is extremely short (no more than about 10-15 minutes in total) and which is based on snippets of Lucretius, Vergil, Horace and ... Read More:
