The odd title of this book refers to the citrus road hazards encountered by the author, Chris Stewart, on his inaugural house-hunting trip in Andalucía, where he is TOLD which house to buy (they do things differently in the mountains).

Slowly settling into Pedro Romero's run-down farm (with Pedro who takes his time leaving!), this well written book tells the tale of his eventful first few years in the Alpujarrás. With his loyal wife Ana by his side, Stewart recounts all their experiences of errant sheep, dodgy farmers, flooded rivers, dried up rivers, and the sights and sounds of his new home with passion and warmth.

Despite an unusually high number of flaws, this is nevertheless a book that will help you get the most out of your time in Andalucia.

Perhaps I just expect too much of Lonely Planet (LP), but it's their own fault. They've stood by me so many times in so many different places in the past that I was beginning to take everything they told me as The Only Advice In Town. So when I arrived in Seville I quickly got into the LP groove and hit La Bella Estrella, a "jazz bar".

This is a BIG fold-down map - ain't it always the way, all the 'key' places/roads/etc., are on the folds!

Seriously, the BIG format is un-useful if you're driving long distance. It's a PAIN to keep stopping and re-folding - buy a book.

I can only comment on the section on Almeria region, an area which I have been to a number of times and which I am starting to explore more. I bought this guide to help me find out more and was pleased with the level of information on history, architecture, etc. However I was disappointed with the way the author dismisses so many places because they do not meet what appear to be his lofty criteria of 'old and untouched Spain'. Spain is rapidly changing and development is reaching into even remote areas. This should be accepted and dealt with more maturely.

The strength of this guidebook is in its pictures - there are colour photographs throughout - and its guides to the most famous monuments which walk you through the main features in the order in which you're likely to find them. The weakness is in the maps and practical information.

The 'top ten' format is maintained rigidly throughout, even in the general information sections, which doesn't always seem appropriate. I was also unclear as to whether the top ten was in ranked order (i.e. with one being the best, ten the least good of the selection), or in no particular order. As the book often isn't comparing like with like (e.g. budget and luxury hotels in the same list), it is hard to tell.

I found Guy Hunter-Watts book of the best walks in Andalucia indispensable. Guy's local knowledge of the area and use of both man-made and natural navigation aids makes the routes easy to follow. Additional tips such as where to find a good meal and a bed after a long walk are a valuable addition!

I found Guy Hunter-Watts book of the best walks in Andalucia indispensable. Guy's local knowledge of the area and use of both man-made and natural navigation aids makes the routes easy to follow. Additional tips such as where to find a good meal and a bed after a long walk are a valuable addition!

If you are really interested in Andalucia, not just to lie on the beaches or take photos of the Alhambra then this book is an absolute must. In the great tradition of travel writing, it is so much more than just a guide book. Jacobs writes with real clarity and passion. If you are planning a trip to Andalucia the investment of a few pounds in this book, will definitely be worth it. If you are not planning a trip, but have an interest in the land of Carmen,Flamenco, bullfighting etc.then it is a must! First class book.

I was travelling to Andalucia and although know some of the area, definately thought I needed a map.
What an excellent choice I made.
The map is very clear and concise with very good points of interest etc.
If you are travelling in this area you would be a fool to be without it.
Guaranteed to keep you on the straight and narrow...if thats what you want!
But will aslo take you the the old traditional places where the tourists dont go.
I would suggest you buy this, you'd regret it if you didnt!!
