. Eleanor of Aquitaine: By the Wrath of God, Queen of England
Search: Aquitaine
by: Alison Weir
January 10, 2008
Some of the most fascinating characters in history hail from the murkier depths of times lacking much documentary sources. Perhaps their interest comes from this patchwork of conflicting sources, or perhaps the temporal distance lends enchantment. It also presents a problem for the biographer, in that the lack of sources makes it difficult to write authoritatively on the subject. If the subject is a mystery then the book can't be much more than conjectures joined up with speculation.
Eleanor of Aquitaine occupies an odd place in such a time. As a ruler and heiress in her own right, and as queen of France and later England, her life is much more richly documented than most of her contemporaries. Her movements, lodgings, nutrition ... Read More:

. The Aquitaine Progression
Search: Aquitaine
by: Robert Ludlum
March 18, 2004
This is an ancient book (1980's) still going strong. Why some authors keep on being reprinted is not always easily understood, but in Ludlum's case, this is fairly straightforward.
When Joel Converse meets up with his old friend/aquaintance, Avery Fowler (now known as Preston Halliday), his life is turned upside down. He is recruited into the battle against something known as Aquitaine when Pres/Avery dies in his arms.
From that murder on, his life is in great danger as he seeks to discover the identity of the people behind Aquitaine along with trying to destroy their attempt to take over the world. Joel soon finds himself pretty much alone in this fight, being hounded by police in many countries along with the people in ... Read More:

Search: Aquitaine
by: Sharon Kay Penman
2004-11
Sharon Penman's writing style is a joy. Though her books are by no means lightweight reading, the narrative just seems to flow from the pages. This books is another of her mystery offerings featuring Justin de Quincy. Richard the Lionheart, son of Eleanor of Aquitaine has been captured and is languishing in a German jail. At the same time his brother John is making his own plans to take the throne of England. The Queen has already made her own plans to ransom her son Richard, but one of the ransom payments goes missing in the hills of Wales and Eleanor sends her trusted servant Justin de Quincy to investigate. Murder and mayhem soon follow. One of the things I like about Penman is that she is at pains to try to ... Read More:

. Edward, Prince of Wales and Aquitaine: A Biography of the Black Prince
Search: Aquitaine
by: Richard Barber
February 21, 2003
This book has been accused of being too 'simplistic' and narrative based, because it doesn't dwell on details of military strategy etc. I think this is because Barber is concerned with keeping the reader interested at all times. This he certainly achieves, making for a very easy read. After reading David Green's book 'The Black Prince' however, I saw that Barber wasn't as great as I had at first thought. Basically, if you're not a historian (or crazy about military details) then you will find nothing wrong with this book and simply enjoy reading it. The other thing it does well is teach a huge amount very quickly and easily - so if you're a student this is the one to read first! 4 stars because it's not the best, but it doesn't get a great deal better.
