This is a pretty much faultless combination of the words of P.G.Wodehouse and some terrific acting. All the cast are good, but the main plaudits must go to the two stars. Richard Briers plays Wooster not as a complete silly ass, but as a man with a sense of his own dignity even if that is the only sense that he has. And Michael Horden is masterful, managing to convey an astonishing range of emotions and information within a simple phrase such as "Indeed, sir".

I read this book several years ago. Yes it is enthusiastic and easily accesible and very convincing BUT I don't believe it was written out of any profound knowledge nor from true enlightenment. I felt it was at best a simplified version of Krishnamurti's writings, which I may struggle with but find deeply insightful. So yes as an introduction to more sincere & profound spiritual writing it has it's place. Tolle does have a story to tell, but it is not that unique. There is a difference between simplification coming from deep wisdom and that from inexperience ( I guess the same can be said for more complicated texts too!) and knowledge truely lived and that which is just an exchange of words. This is a wonderful adaptation. The acting is really great - the voices are perfect in my mind, particularly Lyra, Will, Mrs. Coulter, the gyptians... Lord Asriel's seems perhaps strange to start with, but before long he seems great for the job. I agree with the above that the adaptations could have merited from being a bit longer - but having read the books and then listened to these it's not actually that noticable. The adapters have done well in condensing it to this space, spending most time on the most important bits - the end of the first book, for example. The adapters clearly have a great love of the book and Lavinia Murray has done a great job into adapting into two CDs worth, and the acting is really great. Highly recommended!

There's no getting away from the fact this is pricey but it's worth it!
It's VERY atmospheric with really strong performances from an all British cast. It's NOT an audio book ! There is a central narrator, but every character has it's own individual performance/actor, there are some fantastic (& never cheesy!) Sound FX and subtle uses of suitably grand, orchestral pieces. I certainly can't imagine much better on the Radio back in 1981 - the WHOLE tale fom start to finish!
The beauty of this is that you can indulge your imagination. Definiteley one for a hot bath & the lights out! It's inevitable that comparisons will be made with the Movie trilogy & it is impossible to prevent Peter Jackson's wonderful images occasionally seeping into the mind's ... Read More:

I enjoy Quickstart Italian mainly because it is an easy introduction split into bitesize sections. In each 10 minute segment you'll learn three or four phrases useful in circumstances such as in a taxi, hotel, restaurant etc. Do a lesson or two a day and in a couple of weeks you'll have a much better grasp of basic Italian than you did before. I agree with another reviewer that the frequent use of the title music is a bit annoying but I found the course effective and accessible which is something. My only criticism of the course is that it gives no explanation of verb structure leaving you stuck in the tenses that they use. However, Michel Thomas' Introductory course gives excellent coverage of verb structure but doesn't cover the everyday usage that this set does, so the two courses, ... Read More:

Overcome the Fear of Flying
Do not know how it works, but it does !!!!. For the 1st time in years I actually enjoyed my flight. !!!!!!
Before I used this cd I would be ill days before I my flight with anxiety and stress. NOT THIS TIME ! It was such a welcome relief not to feel any fear days before and not have to take any tranquillers before and during the flight. My Family all said how much better I was and I did not think about the flight home untill I was at airport. Before I would so worried about flying home it always ruined the last part of my hols.
I played the cd (on I pod) thru headphones (as recomended) everyday for 2 weeks before my trip.
IF YOU HAVE A FEAR OF FLYING HOWEVER BAD (and mine was so bad ) THIS IS FOR YOU. I CANNOT RECOMNED IT ENOUGH.

Set during the London "season", society scandals end in blackmail and murder. As old friends are suffering can Alleyn find the culprits and get justice, avenging the late Robert "Bunchy" Gospel? Plotted to perfection, the murderer is well hidden enough to keep the readers guessing with out being completly unexpected. Marsh really was thye master of her craft.
