This will remain un-funny until the day I pop my clogs. They should have quit when they are ahead, 8 years ago.

I've just completed both this and the advanced course and I think that they are both excellent and achieve very well what they set out to do.

I think that a lot of the criticism of the courses come from people who do not know before they buy them what Michel's methods are about.

These courses will -
- give you a solid grounding in the structure of the Spanish language
- teach American Spanish rather than Spanish Spanish if you get what I mean, though as far as I can tell the differences are mainly ones of pronunciation
- give you a great big boost of confidence after only a very short time; you will feel like you're learning really quickly.

Well I love a good Bill Bryson book and this is surely the best. As a travel writer he has kept me interested and amused with many an exciting journey but this rates as the best journey he has ever written. A journey that takes the layman on a travel experience spanning billions of years including an insight into all the sciences and ologies one can imagine. If only I had been able to read science at school like this...I might well have found an interest.

I'm sure the theory behind this CD is great, its very well put together, and yes, it probably will work for many people.
But I'm afraid Glenn Harrold's accent quite simply drives me mad.
If you're happy being lulled into a trance by a voice that sounds like one of the cast of East Enders, go ahead and invest - but as a Northerner, this just doesn't work for me at all :o(

OK, so some of the associations are a bit dodgy, but I actually found this to be really funny, which ultimately helped me to remember the words.

With only 200 words you're not going to become fluent, however I found the vocab to be really useful when used in conjunction with Michel Thomas' 8 disc foundation course (which concentrates more on sentence structure and verbs). My husband didn't use Instant Recall (and only did 6 of the 8 Michel Thomas discs) and it was surprising how much I had to translate/communicate during our recent trip to Cuba.

It concentrates more on Latin American pronunciation, which was good for our purpose. I did find that the translation of a couple of the words didn't quite match up, but this was never a problem ... Read More:

There is no doubt that Stephen Fry is entirely the MOST suitable person for the job of reading ANY story for an audio book. His voice is perfectly suited to story telling and he is able to define and animate the characters in his own colourful way. It's a good audio book and this is very much attributed to the talented Mr Fry.

I am disappointed however, that the indexing for the CDs are in such a pickle! Whilst I understand that copying CDs and music is frowned upon, is it not feasible that a person can listen to this audio book on their MP3 player? Attempting to transfer this into a more mobile format is something of a mission. The CDs chapters and files are not labelled properly, so if you want to put this into MP3 format you will find you have a jumbled mess! ... Read More:

they always do it the same way, until little Duck thinks he's got a better idea.....'

I was captivated by the book corner at a recent primary class I visited, in connection with helping young children cook as part of my course.
`Pumpkin Soup' was the source book and `the corner' was alive with the green and gold shades of Autumn, and pictures/poems about the three lovable characters, with some amazing attention to detail even down to the bag-pipes!
It proved an excellent platform for a project and the children couldn't hide their delight in acting out their little pieces - it sure brought a tear to the eye.

The previous reviewer seems to be referring to another CD by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This CD set has 4 CD's, Bodyscan Meditation, Mindful Yoga, Sitting Meditation and Mindful Yoga 2. This CD forms the basis of the 8 week Mindfulness course developed by Jon Kabat Zinn and adapted by Mark Williams and others to run in the UK. The Bodyscan and the Sitting Meditation are the ones I use the most so far they form the bedrock for Mindfulness as put forward by Jon Kabat Zinn. I use them regularly and learn something about myself and Mindfulness every time I listen to the CD's. Jon Kabat-Zinn is the best teacher of Mindfulness I have found he talks total sense backed up by a scientific background and years of running courses on Mindfulness in hospitals and medical centres across America.
