I founded it very beneficial to read through an exercise and try firstly to understand what was being said in a conversation. Than I used the CD's to see if I could also understand what was being said without the aid of the book. This helps develop the learning curve of Italian at a more rapid pace. After each exercise there are other small excursuses added on the CD to test how well you covered the chapter.
