This guidebook provides good advice on the major walking routes in New Zealand, but very little gets mentioned in the blurb about the seasons when the walks can be carried out. Having come to NZ in their winter, only two of the walks are possible, the others being on paths closed or too dangerous in snowy conditions.
Still good for summer though!

The Lonely Planet city guide to "Melbourne" was put together by Simone Egger and David McClymont. The guide I am reviewing is the 5th edition of the guide, so please take note that a 6th edition has been released, and it is almost always best to go with the latest edition of a travel guide.

I may update my review after my trip, but from my first reading of the guide, I found it to be fairly comprehensive. It covers the city as well as some things to do in the immediately surrounding region. There are sections which cover the culture (`City Life', `Arts',' Food', `History'), the area (`Neighbourhoods'), and most importantly for the traveler, things to do (`Eating', `Drinking', `Sleeping', `Walking Tours', `Entertainment', `Sports, Health, ... Having now gone through the process of moving to New Zealand and read all the books, I can say that this is the best to read. The book is well set out with good sections on things like pensions, health, telephones and work. I think that it describes the areas of New Zealand well The description on New Zealand television is true - it really is very bad! The book only skips over the immigration process and that is a good thing. The rules change every year so it is better to go to the New Zealand Immigration Service website for up to date information. My advice to anyone is read this book but if you want to live here for goodness sake come on a holiday first. You need to experience it and I can honestly say it has many benefits but it sure isn't paradise!
