I bought this along with 2 other guides prior to my first visit to Gambia. Although the least recent in terms of publication date it did seem to be the most up to date in terms of restaurants that were still open etc., and I found it far and away the most practical and appropriate of guides for me as a first time visitor who was simply a package tourist with an independent streak as opposed to someone on a gap year backpack visit.
That said as it is written by authors who live in the country it is also an excellent guide for the medium to long-stay visitor also.
Highly recommended!

Very informative on history and culture of Botswana and general advice for visitors. However the big failing of this book is that it only appears to cover half of the country in detail. For instace, because of an impending visit I was interested in the Tuli area and the Mashata Nature Reserve. Information about this area was completely absent from the book. Places that I am visiting e.g. Fort Jameson,Majale river, Jwala River, Motloutse River,Pitsani River are not mentioned.
The book is good as far as it goes, but unfortunately is not a copmplete guide to Botswana

Andrew Dunn has summarised the usefulness of this little book perfectly. It is a much smaller format than I expected (I also have the Bradt guide to Lithuania which is larger,about paperback novel size)and perfect to slip into a pocket. Although I know the city fairly well, I still found the book useful on my recent visit and, as Mr Dunn says, the comments are witty which takes the book above the dry, factual style of many such books

The Bradt Travel Guides are always useful. However, the Guide to Uganda (5th Edition) has proved to be very reliable.
Bradt can be relied on to keep there travel guides up-to-date but I also receive the interim e-mail updates and these are well worth reading. Subscription is simple, just send an e-mail to the author (Philip Briggs) or keep an eye on the website.

This is the best guide book i have ever read though I confess I have not used it as a guide to any of its walks in London. It is a most entertaining guide to London and its history. it is informative, funny and witty. At times it has some astute comments, especially concerning Princess Diana. The author is a journalist and writes very well. I shall be looking for more of his work.
