. Faroe Islands (The Bradt Travel Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Bradt Publications
by: James Proctor
December 16, 2004
The Faroes aren't enormous so it's quite possible for a guide book to cover every single village and hamlet. And that's exactly what James Proctor has done here. Although there have inevitably been some changes since the book was printed in 2004 (eg the new tunnel from Leirvik to Klaksvik now complete, car ferry to Kalsoy, great new pub and guest house in Tvoryori etc) the level of detail is comprehensive and easy to follow.
Altogether I would heartily recommend this book. The minor criticisms which follow are designed to be constructive rather than a reason not to buy a copy of what is by far the best practical guidebook for the Faroes in the English-language.
The biggest criticisms are
1) that with so much ... Read More:

. Backpacking and Hiking in Central America (Bradt Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Bradt Publications
by: Tim Burford
December 31, 1995
Dear editor: I am adressing your publication to let you know that there is a new hotel in Santiago Atitlan, guatemala by the lake Atitlan shore. We have several bungalows and also some semi detached rooms built in the old atiteco fashion: stone walls and thatched roofs, with private bath and hot water. We are proud of our gardens and the food of our international restaurant comes from our own orchard. Acces to our property can be either by the main road or by water: we have a pier right at the foot of the restaurant. Soon we shall be having our own web page and we will let you know the site so you can check the photos and more info. We would be very pleased to be your hosts if any of your writers happen to visit us. Also we hope you ... Read More:

. Baltic Capitals (Bradt Travel Guide Baltic Capitals)
City Travel Guides > Books > Bradt Publications
by: Neil Taylor, et al
2003-08
I used this book last year when visiting Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, therefore it is difficult to comment on the Kaliningrad guide. Trying to use this book as a solo guide to the capitals was near enough impossible. The maps have little detail and are highly in-accurate and there is not much of a restaurant guide either. However, the book does acknowledge this fact and points you in the direction of suitable accompanyments. Having said that, it contains very useful background information on the cities, including histories. These are often cleverly integrated into wlaking tours around the cities that are very helpful, especially in the maze of streets in the old towns. There are plenty of good ideas for excursions and some ... Read More:

. USA by Rail (The Bradt Travel Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Bradt Publications
by: John Pitt
December 31, 1995
This guide gives a complete description of passenger train services in the United States and Canada. The book covers all Amtrak and VIA Rail train routes, commuter routes, special trains such as the American Orient Express, steam powered trains and lots more, including a fascinating history of North American railways. Each modern-day train route is illustrated by a map followed by a list of the cities along the way with mileage and times between them. Each town or city is briefly described, together with points of interest in between that you can see from the train. The book is published jointly in the UK and in the United States, so it has a chapter designed for vistors from abroad with helpful advice about US currency, food, hotels, etc. Altogether, ... . Albania (The Bradt Travel Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Bradt Publications
by: Gillian Gloyer
November 21, 2003
This travel book, rich with educational material on the tourist- shy country of Albania is a must have, if wanting to learn all about the rich and wonderful culture of the Albanians. The book explores not only the history of Albania, but its potential as a developing country. The author discusses her journeys, her experiences, and the feelings she had whilst living in Tirane, the Capital city of Albania. *5 out of 5 stars* This book aims and succeeds in the portrayal of a country which holds, with its untouched lakes, mountains, history- a potential to be a successful tourist hotspot.
