I bought this book after I read its reviews but I must say I am very disappointed. The book's pages are more like those found in children's books, big pictures at full colours and little text. The CD is not easy to follow, as it does not mentions what page is referring to. Overall, this book is very superficial and it doesn't really go anywhere regarding German grammar and pronunciation.

This dictionary is very good value for money, and fine for most purposes, but I have found its vocabulary limited when working with some very mildly technical areas. Also if you don't have a basic knowledge of Italian, it isn't a lot of help with word endings etc. - there is a list of regular and irregular verbs in the back, but this is very concise and of limited help. For example, if you know no Italian, and look up the word 'vieni' you won't find it, and you don't know that you need to look under 'venire'.
I guess most users will probably have some basic Italian, and would find this a useful and adequate, lightweight and small paperback dictionary. For anyone with no Italian and/or a need for moderately specialist or technical vocabulary, ... Read More:

I've just received an evaluation copy of the book. I am teaching Standard Grade and the book is simply perfect, very clear, very well organized. I like the structure of the chapters. The exercises are very good, the listening part is great! The students like it because at the end of each chapter they have a check list of what they are supposed to know. It is up to date as well. A definite 5 stars!

I really like this format. I have looked at very, very many different teaching aids to French, (and bought a few too) and I do think that this is the best one. The format makes good use of colour and variety. There are listening, writing and speaking exercises. It does not ignore the grammar, but explains grammatical points succinctly. The CDs are essential to you progressing on the course. I genuinely think that you can make progress by yourself using this format. Its exceptionally well thought out and executed.

This is probably the worse course book I have ever seen. The audio bounces around the chapters so it is very difficult to follow the audio. They introduce new words without giving examples to whether it is der die or das. For all you teachers out there, this may seem quite adequate (as most teachers seem to have an elitist attitude), but for us students this is a real pain in the rear! You have to keep referring to the glossary, which really takes the fun out of learning German. As all you are really learning is now to navigate the glossary efficiently. This has to be the best learning tool ANYONE can use when attempting to learn Hiragana. I have just started to learn Japanese and felt it important to learn both Hiragana and Katakana. Over the past week I have been using this for about an hour a day and have already attained near fluency in Hiragana.....PAINLESSLY!
Seriously I have just worked through each page and am astounded with the results! I felt it would take months of dilligent study to remember the "countless" Hiragana, but the brilliantly structured approach and clever excercises made it SO easy I just had to share my feelings. While only half way thorough the book I was SO impressed I decided to purchase both the "Let's Learn Katakana" and "Let's Learn Kanji" from the same series.
