This book is really useful especially when shopping - if you don't feel confident enough to attempt the pronunciation you can point to the picture to make yourself understood. As has been mentioned it will help to enlarge your vocabulary. This book attracted much interest from friends and family - I thought I might not get it back. Buy it, you won't regret it, as they say, a picture says a thousand words.

there is nothing advanced about this and it offers very little for advanced learners, i often found i was lookin up other books for the word and phrases i wanted as this book could not provide them. it has sub topics but the vocabulary in each one is quite sparse. for a better vocab book in french try Mot A Mot.

Perhaps I just don't learn this way. The music did nothing for me, and I can't think of any phrases "anchored into my long term memory". Perhaps I don't play it enough.

The CD is fine if you want to learn stock phrases like "I would like to order...", "Have you got..." "Is there...." but what do you do when someone responds in German.

I want to learn German so I can ask, understand the answer and respond. It will help you "get by" but not to have a conversation - go for broke and get Michel Thomas instead.

this book explores the topics of study for AQA french A-level - it is a great aid to the final exams which I am currently sitting and has proved to be an immense grammar and vocabularly aid to me and to my peers who have also used this book for study. I would highly recommend Elan 2 to anyone studying A-level french, if you aren't I wouldn't bother as it would probably be no good. If you do buy it, enjoy... and good luck in your exams

It's difficult to find good Spanish authors suitable for beginners. The idea behind this book is good. Short stories with the Spanish text translated on the opposite page. This makes it easy to progress through the story without losing too much momentum. The translations are quite good.
I found the stories a bit boring. It appears that in an effort to find reputable authors of good literature, the editors sacrificed more potentially interesting stories with actual events. The stories are often long-winded and slow with no great drama. They didn't maintain my interest beyond an exercise in grammar and vocabulary building. But if stories about Literary Tea Parties and a woman's indifference to other people get you hooked then this is for you. ... Read More:
