This is the book recommended by most teachers. I used it before I went to live in Japan. However the way it is set out and the language taught is too formal and rigid.

By far a better choice for the learner is the Genki series which is far better written and includes a lot of less formal expressions useful for every day conversation. FOr a more serious learner minna no nihongo is also far superior to Japanese for busy people.

Overall I would avoid this book like the plague and spend your money more wisely. If you have a lazy teacher then but this book.

This is probably the best GCSE revision guide available - it is compact enough to be used as a revision aid, yet it is sufficiently comprehensive to enable students to use it throughout the course and to revise the higher level vocab and phrases needed to get the top grades. There is excellent and extensive use of underlining and highlighting of key points throughout and at the end of each revision section there is also a very useful and thorough test page to see if you are ready to move on to the next.

My only quibble, and it's not a small one, is that the lists of vocabulary are joined too closely together i.e not alligned and spaced out as should be standard in these revision guides. It's therefore difficult to hide the word ... Read More:

Straightforward and ungimmicky, i found the easiest way of using it was to transfer it to my MP3 player so i could use it on my commute.

It is very much a beginners Spanish - it starts slowly from the absolute basics.

Towards the end of the first (of 3) CDs the pace starts to hot up. One might get a little critical of their choice of vocabulary at this point, asking where things are and learning "in front of" "behind" and "opposite" - crummy linguists like me tend to use `point and show' to cope with this element of communication, but one can always quibble about this.

This book is brilliant. As a home edeucator and having muddled through teaching my daughter French to GCSE level with a mix of inadequate books I was DELIGHTED to find this one for Spanish. We used it to take both of us from nothing to GCSE Spanish level in four months. It has EVERYTHING you need as well as a brilliant grammar section at the end - I am not keen on the current structureless way of learning languages. The only extra thing you need to do apart from going through this book systematically (out loud), is to download the past papers and mark schemes from AQA, if that is your board,and to get something for the accent - we used an old Collins Spanish (South American)Phrase book - and away you go. I recently borrowed the DVD (of the 6 part TV series, Talk French)from my library. I just wish to warn people the DVD is pretty much useless as a stand alone item. Most of the language content is spoken French with little explanation; if you understand it you don't need this DVD. It may be very good as a supplement to the CD/Book package. I have used it on a PC. The subtitles menu system looks simple but is a horror story! (There is no indication of the current selection, just a ping-pong ball that moves around)The options are English, French or none. Only the last one worked! That greatly diminished the usefulness of the material.

This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

Found this pack really useful. It has helped me to get started on spanish and I have found the book gives interesting information about life in Spain/South American. Answers are all in the back so think this is a good pack if you want to start learning Spanish without a class.

This is, undoubtedly, -the- grammar reference for those learning Spanish. It has a high level of detail that will appeal to those with a working knowledge of the language, but may be intimidating to someone new to Spanish.

The text is liberally interspersed with examples, and is very clear - particularly with the glossary at the back, which contains explanations of various grammatical terms that are used.

I would consider this book to be a 'must-have' for anyone wanting to get a firmer grasp of Spanish grammar.
