What a fantastic book!! As well as being a great guide to all the best places to go in London with kids, it's actually a very interesting read. It's full of information and snippets of little-known facts about London and it's landmarks. Great for impressing the kids while you're out and about on your travels.

The book is well written, and aimed at such a level that it doesn't seem like a foreign travel guide, so it can be used easily by British people as well as visitors from other countries. It's divided into easy to use sections which cover various areas of London, so if you're in one particular area it gives you information on what there is to see and do, as well as the best places to eat with children in mind (what a godsend!) ... This is a brilliant little book - small enough to put in your pocket, easy to read, funny, full of every kind of information you might want, witty, well researched - and ..... I followed the hints on buying a Venetian door knocker, and saved myself about £30! Thanks.

Three of the most memorable restaurants I have ever eaten in (and I have eaten in lots)came from a trip to Andalucia with this guide.

Without it you would never stumble across them or pick them from the crowd. We had children of 2 & 9 months with us and were welcomed in all the restaurants listed.

The travel guide element was a bonus- the list of 10 restaurants alone is worth the money

Without it you would never stumble across them or pick them from the crowd. We had children of 2 & 9 months with us and were welcomed in all the restaurants listed.

I know it's terrible to pick on such things, but there were many, many misspellings of Spanish places, names, etc. It made me wonder if they were so careless about checking such simple things, what else did they not check?

This is quite an unusual book - a mix of biography, travel writing, history with a bit of self-mocking thrown in - but on the whole it works really well.

Over the course of a year, Lyons set out to explore Tolkien's inspiration in the English countryside the only way possible - on foot. What you get is a series of chapters on one or more places in England. Lyons writes beautifully about the landscape and demonstrates in each place he visits the relationship between the landscape and its history and myths and Tolkien's work.

Don't read this expecting to be told where you can find a hidden Yorkshire valley just like Rivendell or something (although there are a couple of surprise discoveries that really impressed me!). It's more ... Read More:
