I have been island hopping in Greece several times, always accompanied by this and several other guide books. While my other guide books may have more detailed information re accomodation / food etc, I feel that this book is more accurate and appropriate in its descriptions of the culture and the history of the islands. Furthermore, its humourous style of writing and unique insights into Greek life makes this a very enjoyable read whether you are going to Greece or not!!

This book is visually very appealing, with plenty of photographs and details of places to visit. Helpfully, telephone numbers and fax numbers for Estate houses, boat trips, helicopter trips and gardens etc are printed, and the book describes the facilities available e g whether there is a cafe or disabled access. We booked a hotel recommended and it was fantastic. This book appeals to people who are looking for an active holiday, as well as spending some time on a beach. We tried a couple of the rainforest trails mentioned, and visited lots of waterfalls. It is also a lovely book to keep to remind us of our travels.

I am currently planning to visit some 20 different countries - one after the other. Many will require evidence of my onward or return travel at the point of my arrival. The problem with that is that my visit to each country is to study and photograph the scuba diving and research the history of various outstanding shipwrecks. How long each visit will take is, therefore, not known.
