As I am visiting Vancouver on holiday, I decided to buy this 'streetmap'. Unfortunately it only shows a very small part of the city, and only the downtown area is shown in any detail. I do not know what the scale is, as the only scale I can find is for Stanly Park. It has two popout maps, each an unusually folded sheet of paper. If you do not flatten a map it folds back relatively easily, however, if you flatten the map, it requires a black belt in origami to get it to fold.
If you are walking in the downtown area, it might be better than nothing but is totally useless as a navigational aide.

This is by no means a bad guide - it has the DK's usual excellent assortment of sights, restaurants, cafes, general travel info. However, it has no map for Montreal's metro system which is a obvious defect (despite being a fairly walkable city, being there for a short time and on a budget, I inevitably ended up using the underground trains).
the restaurant guide is excellent (having happily tried several of the recommendations) and the book covers all of the main sights.
Usefully, this is a small, andtherefire portable guide

In 1930, Eric Sevareid (17) and his friend, Walter Port (19), paddled an 18-ft canvas canoe from Minneapolis to York Factory on Hudson Bay with little preparation. The trip took them 14 weeks. It's an interesting little story about blind courage and luck prevailing during some rough circumstances. Even with modern technology, it's a trip few adults would venture today, let alone two teenagers. It's a quick read that paints a picture of a time, and ways of life, gone by. The title notwithstanding, it doesn't have much to do with the Cree.
