. Lonely Planet: Jamaica
City Travel Guides > Books > Caribbean
by: Christopher P. Baker
2000-01
I've just returned from a break in Jamaica after a long absence. To get up to date with changes back home I purchased the Lonely Planet guide. It was also a bit of an 'instinct' buy really because this guidebook series has served me relatively well in the past as a decent enough reference source for the many countries I have been lucky enough to visit. The content of this book was in some sections however a little disappointing, and in some cases quite insulting to me as a Jamaican, regarding comments on excessive crime, cleanliness etc. I read the book carefully cover to cover prior to my trip and deliberately kept an open mind until AFTER I had seen things first-hand, whilst traveling over the whole island visiting friends and family. Now, ... Read More:

. Flight to St Antony
City Travel Guides > Books > Caribbean
by: Tony Blackman
June 01, 2008
This is a first class aviation mystery, easy reading and credible even to someone from the airline industry like me. The story had me guessing (wrongly) to the end. I found it increasingly difficult to put down preferring it to two first class TV shows which I then had to record on this new fangled method of accessing past shows on a computer.
It is a mystery concerning the ditching of a modern twin engined passenger aircraft operated by a major British airline at the end of a transatlantic flight to the Caribbean island of St Antony. The accident brings to the island the usual gathering of accident inspectors, company flight managers and an assessor from the company carrying the insurance liability. It is this last person who digs deeper ... Read More:

. In the Red Corner
City Travel Guides > Books > Caribbean
by: John Duncan
March 01, 2001
I have read many books on the sport. This book is by far one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. A rare look into the world of Cuban boxing and it's heros. Mr. Duncan has written the book in such a way that you feel that you,the reader, are part of the adventure. It is a history lesson. But most of all it is fun to read;open, sad, funny, never boring. Mr.Duncan pulled no punches here! Anyone who loves boxing, or just a GREAT book should read this one. Thanks Mr.Duncan. Viva Cuba,Viva John Duncan!
