I have read many books on the sport. This book is by far one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. A rare look into the world of Cuban boxing and it's heros. Mr. Duncan has written the book in such a way that you feel that you,the reader,are part of the adventure. It is a history lesson. But most of all it is fun to read;open,sad,funny,never boring. This book is brilliant there's not an awfull lot to my knowledge written about Haiti which is part of why i think its such an interesting place and this book is a real insight, its really well written by an obviously very brave man, it almost makes me want to go there myself almost that is. Really worth reading.

It makes the reader understand why Trinidadians are carnival mad, why Jamaicans eat ackee and saltfish, why St Lucians have produced two Nobel prize winners, why Jean Rhys wrote so hauntingly about Dominica. All those ways of life that you can only guess at what they're about make sense when you read this book. And it's not just about the Caribbean bits that speak English - it's as good as you can get on the Dutch, French and Spanish Caribbean. Lots of range and lots of authority.
