Having recently located from one capital city (London) to another (Ottawa) I can thoroughly recommend this guide to anybody contemplating a similar move. So far (three weeks in Canada and counting) I have not found a topic that I needed advice on that this book could not answer. In fact, I have frequently found that I am perhaps better informed than some of the resident population! The book's style is open and engaging, and where differences between provinces exist they are outlined accurately and succinctly. My only, minor, criticism is that the indexing could be better, but not by much. If you combine this book with one of the better tourist guides I can't see that there would be much you aren't prepared for.

Since I bought this moleskine city guide I don't think I've ever left it at home. It has proved an invaluable way to make little notes about the city I live in. For example, I have been able to record quirky little cafes on side streets, found by chance, and would probably never be found again without somewhere to note it all down. I can see this turning into a way to collect my musings and witterings about London.

A lovely product that I will keep for life - or at least until it is falling apart.

Without a doubt this book is something that I've been waiting to read for a long time! it is a collection of narratives and photographs from the period 1977 to the present. This book also gives a clear account of how London has changed from being a depressed, run-down and politically charged city to the cosmopolitan and modern city it has become today. After reading this book it has surprised me just how much London has changed from the run down Docklands of the 1980's and the riots in Brixton to the crumbling inner-cities that were once common place. This book is also good because it emphasizes that although many positive changes have taken place, they may not have necessarily affected all Londoners. Loved this book - it contains neat sections of the top 10 of just about everything to do in Madrid. Includes places to eat, drink, sights to see, places to visit etc etc. We certainly saw more of the city in 5 days than we would ever have done if we hadn't bought the book and it was quite satisfying to get back to the hotel and tick off all the places we'd been! The reviews were very brief but very accurate so we felt quite confident exploring on our own.

On a two week holiday to Japan, bought this and another major guide at the airport, hot off the press. Many aspects are disappointing, for example, the guide is organised by theme, and not by area. I'm staying in Shinjuku, if i want to look up accommodation, that's on page 117, but if you want a map, that's 40 pages away o p150, and somewhere to go out, try page 180, and the sights? flip back 30 pages or so... I think you get the idea. Does it have a handy index? No. A cross reference? No. The maps, which I thought were okay when I flicked through it at the airport, aren't that detailed. Just back from a trip to B Aires where I had available the Footprint guide for Argentina, the Wallpaper guide and the Time Out guide. The Time Out guide proved to be easily the best. The Wallpaper is extremely superficial, but great if you are into design and all things 'trendy'. The Footprint was extremely disappointing. I have used them for S America before, but found the one for Argentina out of date and old fashioned. If you are young (or young at heart), go for the Time Out guide.

Whenever I go traveling I always take a Lonely Planet with me, they are indispensable and Peru was no exception. While the book served me well and ensured my travels where well informed and trouble free.

But!, I feel the book is not up to lonely planets usual standard, the whole book was pitched at a too negative tone, it had me thinking I would be raped/mugged/attacked every 5 mins, to the contrary I felt entirely safe for all the time I was there. Many of the prices where incorrect despite the books recent publish date, I also found the descriptions of many of the hotels to be wrong, it seemed as if they had been randomly shuffled in editing.
